If Savard is playing at a level which garnered a 1st + as a rental w/ retention, he's not going to be traded by a rebuilding team w/ retention for a 2nd, a decent prospect they don't need, and a contract they don't want.

I doubt he'll be at that level again, but the if means Montreal passes.

I feel like this team is a top-6 forward away from the cup ... Duclair could be that top-6 forward for them

I understand what you're saying but it's more so if he can play like that a little bit in important over be that player all the time. You also have to account for age, injury concerns and consistency in the past. Maybe the 24'1st instead?

I think they do need a middle 6 scoring winger but the thing that gets them over the hump rn is an experienced defensive d-man that can slide into that top 4 nicely

We need a RH version of Ekholm.

Oilers aren't winning the cup with Ceci in the top 4. Duclair could put up 30 goals on Mcdavid's wing, if Savard is playing at a top level he is most definitely worth that package for Edmonton.

Ceci > Savard at this point. And you reference Savard's performance in Tampa, but he was highly sheltered there and didn't come out with good results even then. Anywhere he's played a top-4 role in the past 4 years (Columbus, Montreal) he has genuinely been one of the worth players in the league. So you just traded your 1st pairing guy for a 3rd pairing guy AND ADDED A GOOD PICK + PROSPECT.

They have Nugent-Hopkins, Kane, Hyman and Brown as their top-6 wingers. I don't think that's an area of need.

Fair enough but then who is going to fill that top 4 spot. Edmonton isn't going to be winning a cup with Ceci playing top pairing minutes even if he did, that defensive pairing crumbled last year when it mattered. I believe that Edmonton can win with Nurse playing top pairing minutes but not with Ceci, a change definitely needs to be made.

In camp they're running

Nurse-Bouchard
Ekholm-Broberg
Kulak-Ceci

Probably Ceci spends more time against Elite opponents than Broberg over the course of the season. But clearly Woodcroft is working to reduce the crazy workload Nurse-Ceci were facing.

Ceci is better than savard so why would edmonton pay to downgrade I don’t understand it
