No way that's enough. Saros is a top 5 goalie in the league, you're offering scraps for him.

I would argue those aren't scraps at all. Pinelli and Portillo are legit prospects, and a 1st is always good. Grundstrom is probably more for salary movement, but he's a good 4th liner who brings jam to his game. Not a useless piece by any means.

But I do agree with you in that I also don't think it would be enough.

i think this is more of a Hellebuyck trade as far as i know non of those are fantastic prospects probably future bottom/middle 6 guys. a younger, cheeper some would argue better goalie with an extra year is worth more than that for sure. BTW probably a little much for Hellebuyck though

Even if Helle is a rental for the Kings, I'd still think that you need more of a legit prospect than Pinelli and Portillo.

If I was Nashville, I'd be asking for Byfield or Clarke. If i'm trading a #1 goalie on a good contract, I'd want something BIIGGGG in return. Doubt Kings would offer them tho, but that's the price you gotta pay imo.

Saros still has another year on his contract and is one of the best. This wont cut it. Lots of quantity of assets but not nearly enough quality. Take out half the assets in this deal and replace the ones that remain with higher end assets.

If Saros was UFA at end of year, than the price would drop but right now, he's still got term on a team friendly cap. He's as expensive to acquire as he's going to be.

IMHO pay the dang price. Saros makes LAK a legit contender for the cup.

Goaltenders are never worth 1st round picks, in the draft or via trade.

I wouldn't give up a 1st round pick for Shesterkin, let alone Saros.

That is my thoughts. I'm fine with NSH ripping off the bandage and going full rebuild by trading Saros, but NSH needs a major piece they can build around. If I'm Trotz, I'm 100% going after Byfield in this deal, because NSH needs someone who can be a 1C, and Byfield has that potential. NSH has been getting more scoring between Wood and Kemell coming up soon and Tomasino has looked really good in the preseason, but NSH still needs that center. If NSH can get Byfield, a 1st, and another pick or prospect for Saros then I'm taking it.

Sure, they'd ask for that. But teams almost never give up their top, TOP prospects, even in big trades.

But yeah, I get your point. Every team is going to say "our star player is worth your best prospect". Generally, though, the rest of the packages bring that cost down because of the desire for more futures.

I don't understand why NSH would rebuild. They have a top 5 goalie in Saros and a top 5 dman in Josi. They need a retool, and you don't do that by trading a Saros caliber goalie. Adding to your above, they're essentially a top line center away from being very competitive again.

Thought that’d be fair, but I could see Kings fans torching me for that as it is a big, but fair(value-wise) haul.

Which is why this is completely hypothetical. I wouldn’t be down for trading Saros, was just curious how the kings could fit a goalie in cap-wise.

Its really a combination of having a terrible coach ruining a lot of our prospects and that outside of Saros, Josi, and Forsberg the entire team is kind of mid. Johansen never lived up to his potential in NSH outside of maybe 1 or 2 seasons and Duchene just came in on the wrong side of NSH's window. The team has been slowly declining since 2018 and have hit realistically what their floor given their current roster and it is dead middle of the league. To get out of the middle a lot of NSH fans argue that NSH needs to do something to get out the middle where they can't really compete, but are too good to get a prospect that can make a difference. Some think it is best to tear it all down as much as possible and rely on what good prospects NSH has like Askarov, Kemell, Tomasino, etc... others believe it is best just to retool as you said. Just 1C's don't come cheap, and NSH doesn't really have a ton of resources to make that happen, outside of maybe a large package going to Anahiem for Zegras. I'm not fully onboard with selling Saros unless the package is to good to turn away, but this season will be a real litmus test for the team and its trajectory.
