Vasilevskiy injured

Team: 2023-24 Nashville Predators
Initial Creation Date: Sep. 28, 2023
Published: Sep. 28, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
I guess this opens up a slot for Askarov? After making this trade, I realized that Tampa doesn’t have much to offer Nashville except picks, and Lankinen’s contract isn’t a great fit without burning that precious 3rd retention slot.

Understand that this will never happen.
Trades

This greatly reduces the likelihood of a Barrie trade, so I wouldn’t retain on Lankinen. I wonder if BUF could be a good option for TBL — they have Comrie, UPL, and Levi, so maybe they try to grab either Comrie or UPL.

Edit: although it would be funny to have even more TBL draft picks

Deal. I think Askarov’s ready to get some NHL time.

Yeah, this trade really falls apart without retention, and I’m pretty sure Nashville would never do it if that slot needed to be used.

There’s really nobody that Tampa can send the other way to finesse the deal.

why would tampa pay that much for a mid goalie when they could get halak at a lower AAV and hes free?

Lankinen had a .916 last season. Halak lost his first six games and finished with a .903.

okay and lankinen had an .891 the year before that and halak has been a very consistent goaltender for awhile now and lankinen is only 23 and kinda unproven which isnt what tampa is looking for in a short term replacement

What? Lankinen is 28. Halak is 10 years older and has declined for 3 years now. There’s a reason he’s still unsigned.

my b i was looking at the wrong number but still 28 and you have only played 3 seasons is very unproven. Halak has had pretty much the same numbers for three years in a row, how is that a decline? Im not saying that halak is good or anything but he is a better option than lankinen.

Halal’s steady numbers have been around .903. Tampa’s management takes a lot of risks. It’s more likely that they try to get a .916 for 200k or so more than old Jaro Halak.

youre right they do take risks, tbh i they think are going to risk playing one of their ahl goalies in the backup/tandem spot. But I would personally rather have halak

I do not want to watch 2 months of Jonas Johansson being my starting goalie and neither do I want us to give Nashville more of our draft picks haha

issue is becoming cap compliant when Vasilevskiy comes back. best case we just claim someone off waivers and it's of no loss to us once Vasilevskiy comes back.

I'm don't think I'm fully onboard with this. I think Askarov is ready for NHL time as well, but I'd rather him still be in Milwaukee for one more year so that way he gets more games under his belt than he would in the NHL, and he gets to be goalie that helps facilitate a good handful of prospects first full year in Milwaukee like Kemell, Svechkov, and L'Heuruex. After next year, bring up Askarov and Kemell at the same time and maybe even L'Heuruex or Schaefer if NSH also wants to move other pieces beyond Barrie at the dealine like Trenin.
