Barbi 50% retained would have to garner a 1st. Getting a 60 point winger for 1.25 mil is worth a lot more than a replacement level player and a late 2nd.

Who's a 60 pt player now??? Talk about a stretch lol

Valuable player no doubt. To the right team, maybe even worth a 1st (though I doubt it). But calling him a 60 pt player is simply absurd. He had 47 points, even looking at his 82 game pace (which is a pretty dicey logic anyway) he'd be at 56. Even then not even hitting 20 goals.

47 points last year in 68 games (a 56.5 point pace over 82)
And this year instead of Matt Nieto on his opposite wing he gets Duclair. With that kind of upgrade an extra 6-7 points isn’t outrageous! He is a set up guy not a goal scorer but I could see 17G 45A if he plays on the PP and stays with Couture and Duclair and if he’s healthy. I will say he has been looking even better in pre season than last year! IMO min 2nd and a 3rd without retention and a 1st with. Otherwise it might be better to resign him and keep him and he’s said he want to stay that his kids were born here.

Barabanov is more than just 50-60 points for SJ. Hes a team player committed in all three zones, great attitude, fitness and durability. He skates circles around defenders regularly with his elite skating. Hes one of the few vets that wants to be part of the solution in SJ, he is dedicated to Griers plan. Trading him for this minimal package, while using our last retention spot is simply bad asset management. It will take a 1st + to get it done.

Sure. Good player, incredibly versatile. Probably worth more than that offer. My point is that calling a 29 year old with a career high of 47 points a 60 pt player is insane.

How is it “insane” when over an 82 game span he’s a 57 point player last year? It’s literally 3 points from 60 dude. Barbie was a late bloomer who has improved every season in SJ so it’s not a long shot to assume he can hit 60 this year while playing with Couture and Duclair, both former 30 goal scorers. He’s in his prime. Stop exaggerating to try and insulate your point.

Barabonov stuff aside, no chance the Sharks grab ANOTHER defenseman off of waivers. They have like 11 NHL level guys already, and several still need to be waived to get the roster down to 23.
