If Canes win the Cup, and w/ Sturm having term, the 32nd pick is more than fair.

I have love for Sturm, but I'd do that trade if I were Grier. Would help our rebuild by adding another 1st round pick (even if late or end of 1st), and it would open up spots for youngsters to step into.

I think Sturm would be the final piece for the Canes, I'd rather have him, than P.Kane.

Sturm is a gamer. Love that trade for San Jose.

Major overpay for Sturm. Canes aren’t going to move a 1st for a 4C. That’s just terrible asset management.

It's basically a high 2nd and he's better than Drury. If it helps the Canes win the Cup and it will, I'd do it all day. And, SJ should hold out for the best pick, they're not just giving him away. Like I said b4, I'd rather have Sturm than Kane.

If the Canes are trading their 1st, they’ll be aiming quite a bit higher than Sturm

He's a bottom 9 C, regardless, 3 C or 4 C, just numbers, all 4 Lines are going to play. He's solid, 2 way C, win faceoffs, he fits perfect with what the Canes do.

So what.

The Canes already have one of the best 3rd lines in the league in Martinook-Staal-Fast. They don’t need more bottom 6, defensively minded players. They need more offensive pop. Sturm ain’t that.

If the 1st is on the table, it’s for a scorer.

Swap the Carolina 1st for the Flyers 2nd. Could end up being just a one slot drop, but more likely a difference of 5-10 slots.

People have a bias for evaluating trades by round only and don't actually consider the slot difference. For Canes fans a 2nd is much more palatable to give up.

Even 50-75% retained, Sturm isn't worth a late 1st or 2nd. The best and most recent comparable is Sam Lafferty who just returned the Leafs a 5th Round Pick a week ago
