The Avs had to do it. I don’t think many people outside of Avs fans realize that Makar needs Toews more than Toews needs Makar.

At 5v5, there aren’t many defenseman who are better at pushing play in the right direction than Toews

The last 2-3 years of the contract might be painful, but you take the chance on a defenseman of his caliber

Friedman tweeted that there has been progress. Then of course Dater swoops in after and says they're close on a contract. Trying to represent that he still has sources, lol.

Lol. I was about to tell you to check the home page. And yeah, great deal. Guessing we'll see a lot of trade protection. Toews always struck me a the type who would value stability pretty highly for whatever reason. Just the impression I got.
