Description

Call it a sell off, call it a retool, but if the team is going to make an attempt at being competitive, then some things need to change, including moving from more players we've grown close to seeing rock the red.

Clearly this is also a bit of a wish list/pipe dream with the Calgary trade.

Patches, Mantha, Edmunson, and Smith all walk in free agency. Extend Lindholm and Hanifin. One of Oshie or Backstrom likely retires. Roster spots and cap space abound for the next steps.

Devils decline. Carlson's cap hit, even with retention, is too prohibitive. I would only be interested in him as a rental.

That's really bad value for Carlson, a single 1st round pick for a top line defender when the Caps are retaining 9 mil over 3 years is simply not enough, especially when you replace him with a rental Hanifin.

Devils still dont have the cap space for carlson at 5m, they havea 1.8m RN

Why do the Avs give up a 4th for a bottom pair guy that has 4 career NHL games and isn’t waiver exempt? Between Toews, Byram, Girard, and Johnson: which left handed defenseman does he beat out for a roster spot?
