Description
CBJ adds 2m in cap space if NS is waived but Peeke is also signed for 3 years so that sucks for the Jets. If they buy out NS next year, he costs less than Peeke

So instead of having one useless defenseman, the Jackets end up with 2 and $3.2M less cap space? What a deal!

Peeke is gone if he gets waived, so to eat 2m and waive Schmidt and get a young RD prospect and a pick.

If you buyout NS, it costs less than Peeke contract anyways for the following 2 years

Peeke isnt going to be waived. The question is if this is the best offer we would receive and my bet is no because there is no value really coming to the Jackets. You would need to give the pick and prospect for Peeke, then add on another pick to deal with NS. But even then i dont see it being worth it all

Losing Peeke for nothing is more preferable than a Nate Schmidt buyout with a RD prospect that will never play in Columbus and a 3rd rounder as compensation.

But why would anyone trade stuff for Peeke? he is 1.75m too expensive. That was why I based my trade on NS for Peeke plus stuff for the 2m cap difference

Teams would trade for Peeke because he is a solid 3RD, which they would like to have. The issue with your trade is that you didnt come close to meeting the price for Peeke and offsetting the cost of NS or the additional 2mil that we wouldnt be willing to take.

It's a $3.2M cap difference and I'm not proposing the Jackets would get a significant return for Peeke. There's just no team that would take on that much extra cap for as little compensation as you're proposing here. The Jackets would rather throw Peeke on waivers and let him go for nothing than take on Schmidt's contract.
