Ottawa has 8 million in cap space for the next 4-6 weeks or for however long Chabot is out. Also based on the injury history of this core I suspect there will always be someone on LTIR. So they don’t need to make this trade.

Also note, Kastelic is probably better as a fourth line winger.

He’s elite on faceoffs though so you have him take the draws

But yeah Ottawa is not looking to move cap anymore so no reason to lose a deal

That’s not how LTIR works.

Sens don’t get the full cap hit relief of Chabot’s entire season, they get whatever amount he is on IR for. Cap hit are accumulated daily. So if Chabot is on LTIR for 8 weeks, Sens would be allotted to exceed the upper limit but that total amount of 8 weeks salary of Chabot’s contract.

So Chabot makes $41.7K daily, if he’s out 8 weeks that’s a total of 56 days.
$41.7 x 56 = $2,335,200 - that’s the relief that Ottawa will receive, not $8,000,000

Doesn’t exactly matter, they get enough to call up players to have a full roster.

If you’re thinking about Pinto he probably signs a one year contract near league minimum at the end of his suspension, goes down to play for Belleville and it does not affect the cap whatsoever. He is also eligible to sign with the Sens past the December 1st deadlines and play in the NHL during the year.

Yeah, super strong guy. Have him win then have Chartier take the defensive responsibilities cause he’s a better centermen.

really no need for Ottawa to do this now. until Chabot is off LTIR, they have plenty of cap space for call-ups. and even then, there won't be a major rush afterwards, since they'll have plenty of time to sign Pinto later on. no point in Ottawa rushing to make their team worse and help out a divisional rival

Yeah Chartier has actually been impressive defensively

But Kastelic was also good defensively last season :

Can't put the image but use the arrow on the right to Mark Kastelic's card... 78% EV defense in the NHL, quite good
