Calgary declines. If they decide to sell Lindholm they won't be selling low. There'll be a bidding war for him not a fire sale.

Selling low? CGY doesn't have that leverage assuming Lindholm isn't re-signing. Do you really want another Gaudreau incident?

I mean, I guess it depends on how CGY views Merkulov or Lysell. But this is a solid deal for CGY. It's your standard TDL blueprint for a top pending ufa.

CGY KEY UFAs: EL, NHanaf, CTanev, NZadorov.

The 2023 team is literally a week away from making Spring Break 2024 plans & having management blow the entire thing up.
Gone will be the re-sign/re-tool plan of many of the above UFAs & IN will be the full on re-build - for pennies on the dollar!!

Of you swap Lysell for Merkulov and very similar in value to what Vancouver got for Horvat last year.

This isn't last year and Lindholm is better than Horvat.

CGY won't be selling high, but let's not pretend that they don't have any leverage. If/when Lindholm is available, he's clearly the best center on the market, and there could be 10+ legitimate offers for him. That bidding war offsets some of the "poor" start so far.

I wouldn't mind Columbus retaining here for a pick. We easily get outbid by a team making a legitimate push, so seeing an ACGM where he's not sent to Columbus for some mix of KJ/Marchenko/this year's 1st is a breath of fresh air.

    Over the last 3 years:

    Horvat - 205GP / 88G / 161P / .78 PGP
    Lindholm - 218GP / 83G / 193P / .88 PGP

The difference in the P/GP works out to 8pts over 82 games (which isn't much). Horvat is the better defensive center and better from a face-off perspective. You can say this isn't last year, but that's irrelevant to this. GM's are going to use the Horvat trade as a comp when dealing with CGY on any deal for Lindholm.

Try looking at a site that uses ELO to adjust rankings for quality of faceoff competition. Those other sites count winning a faceoff vs some 4th line plug who loses far more faceoffs than he wins counts just as much as beating a good faceoff man who wins 55% or more.

    https://hockeyeloratings.com/players/faceoffratings

This site ranks Lindholm higher because he's a 1st line center facing off against top faceoffs guys more often than Horvat.

    '23-'24 ELO
    Horvat - 2549
    Lindholm - 2573

    '22-'23 ELO
    Horvat - 2605
    Lindholm - 2555

    '21-'22 ELO
    Horvat - 2612
    Lindholm - 2552

    '20-'21 ELO
    Horvat - 2559
    Lindholm - 2546

Maybe I'm using the site wrong, but it looks like Horvat has had a higher ELO in the last 3 full seasons. Lindholm has an edge to start this season, but not by much.

Oh I don't expect CGY to sell Lindholm for pennies on the dollar, but CGY fans shouldn't expect to get a ransom for him either.

In my opinion, it will look similar to Horvat's trade. Which is what I tried to re-create value wise with this BOS trade.

Come on @MoxNix I see you posting on other ACGM's. Am I using the site that you provided right or not?

Well seeing as @MoxNix has made multiple post (and ignored the notification I replied) since I asked for confirmation that I was using the site right (that Mox provided), I'm going to assume I am and that Mox has gone silent because the site doesn't support that Lindholm is a better face-off man than Horvat.
