I’d keep Cambell “Soup” WAY before ever wanting to acquire Blackwood or pay that price for essentially nothing other than getting Campbell off the books

Also the lines are not it

Kane McDavid Hyman
Holloway Draisaitl Nugent-Hopkins
Foegele Novak McLeod
Janmark Boyd Ryan

With 2 players scratched you still have 1.5M in cap. Could make another trade.

Look at what that money off the books allowed them to do. Might need no do this at some point. Or what about a swap for Merzlikins and EDM adds some picks

Yup, they can do anything to their roster and it can't be worse. That won't matter anyway because they are four years away. Definitely should take picks and prospects, even for term deals imo.

Dont need Blackwood. I'd trade Bourgault, 1st and 2nd simply to move that albatross Campbell contract. Everything needs to go with keeping Draisaitl and if they do, McDavid will stay.

Its not a big price for a contender. A Late 1st and 2nd got the Habs Newhook whom isnt even good. Paying that price to move off 4 years of bad money is a really good deal when they need money to sign Draisaitl in 2024 offseason to an extension then McDavid the following offseason

Yeah but now look at EDM draft picks. You completely destroyed them. The Fabbro/Novak deal isn’t necessary even tho Novak would be REALLY nice.

I don't disagree but the idea of a $5M goalie tandem for a couple years could go along way. Looking at $71M cap hit next year (with this ACgm) and could resign Fabbro, Holloway and Broberg and still have $10M to work with to secure a good player/fit for McDavid's line plus a decent third line.

Blackwood has been the only positive guy in San Jose. If you move Campbell, you absolutely need to get a goalie back. Blackwood is perfect for that. I don’t think you want to head in the playoffs with Skinner-Pickard

I wouldn't put Holloway in the top 6. If anything I'd go:
Drai-McD-Hyman
Nuge-Novak-Kane
Foegele-McL-Boyd
Jan-Hollo-Ryan

Definitely options

Its not close to a dealbreaker. Canucks found DeSmith for nada whos better than Blackwood.

You would have to make another trade and give away another pick then.

I hear ya on the Cap Space, but there’s gotta be better deals to be made out there and I worry about depleting the draft/future so much. Goalies are weird, he could play great the rest of the season, especially if the Team if front of him improves

Maybe they should try to swing a deal to send Soup back to TOR where he was previously successful!? They could take Samsonov and Reeves back

Yes but I’m the type of guy who’d rather have McDavid and Draisaitl on different lines. Holloway has been playing great, he deserves his chance in the top6. Would fit perfectly with Nuge and Draisaitl. Really don’t understand that 4th line tho, why is Holloway playing Center when you have Ryan?

Letting him play his natural position. Ryan can still PK as a center.

If that’s the haul 100% agree, thing is I think Edmonton is holding out hope he can come around and they can dump him for less! But with every loss this becomes more of a posibility

They saw him fading and opted to let him walk, why you guys did that deal is beyond me i saw him as a depreciating asset before the contract

I don’t think that’s necessarily the case. TOR doesn’t have much Cap Space to pay a Goalie and so they didn’t want to pay Campbell who deserved a raise after playing for substantially less than his value for years.

Campbell has simply struggled in front of a defensively terrible team

They traded for Murray and he was making almost the same as Campbell even after the retention!

Holland is delusional. The best thing would be taking him out of there and firing the coach who's new zone defence (Bruse Cassidy copycat) isnt working when they are giving up more high danger chances in the slot than most teams and that zone defence is supposed to prevent such chances. Problem being they dont have the Vegas horses on defence.

SJ probably takes this but the best move is for Edmonton to send Holland to the Keg and tell him not to come back

A lot of Oilers fans thought Campbell wasnt a dump after his decent playoffs with 4 game sample of .961 save percentage and his 3-0 preseason sample. Even the biggest homers around here can now admit that Holland needs to pay BIG TIME to move off that albatross. Its pretty easy to tell whom among the Oil fan base isnt delusional these days when Holland is being exposed in 4k and the excuse makers here are in shambles.
