. . . wrote a piece today, apparently for The Hockey News, suggesting that the Edmonton Oilers should consider solving their cap problem by buying out Jack Campbell.

Is there something wrong with me, or am I correct in believing that buyouts are not permitted again until the off-season next summer?

You cant buyout a player midway through the season

NBA you can but not NHL (Happens at TDL)

One possibility/suggestion_Check the CF header (above ^ ^)/CBA/Buyout FAQ...
Buyout Period
The buyout period begins the later of June 15 or 48 hours after the Stanley Cup Final ends. It concludes on June 30 at 5pm ET.
For the 2021 off-season, the buyout period begins 48 hours after the Stanley Cup Final ends. It concludes on July 27 at 5pm ET.
...etc etc.
Cheers

Gotta think he means the next offseason. Draisaitl is a UFA in 2025 and McDavid is a UFA in 2026. That's when things are going to get real tricky for them.

No, the guy was specifically talking about THIS season. The article actually showed up on the MSN news crawl; I'm not a subscriber to The Hockey News.

It certainly deflates my opinion of THN if they allow garbage like this to be published without vetting if the writer is inexperienced.
