Projected Cap Hit Prior To Days Remaining : $81,916,493
Description
Considering Chevy has committed long term to Scheifele and Hellebuyck, he should now build a winning team to justify that decision.
I think these trades make the WPG Jets a much better team and hugely increase our chances of success.
I think these trades are fair for both sides.
Explainations;
Trade 1) Travis Konecny
In my opinion, Travis Konecny should be Chevys top priority target. He fits the style, age, and positional need of the team perfectly. Not acquiring him is an unforgivable oversight that should cost Chevy his job.
Trade 2) Nikolaj Ehlers
Many seem to feel that Nikolaj Ehlers isn’t a fit in Winnipeg, and there can be some merit to that argument. So if he is to be traded, then we should be filling a hole we’ve had for to long without addressing…Top pairing RHD. I chose Ryan Pulock. Though he has NTC protection, I’m hoping he might waive to play in front of his hometown crowd, and with the way Dobson has been playing, the NYI have a someone who can take that top pairing slot.
Trade 3) Nate Schmidt
I, personally, hated his acquisition from day 1 and still do… I can’t think of another player I’d rather move more than him. He is easily Chevys biggest dumbest trade move.
Here I’m giving up Chaz Lucius and a 2nd to move Schmidt and WPG is getting Taylor Raddysh in return to even the balance.
Trade 4) Vladislav Namestnikov
I honestly can’t think of a place to trade him, or what his value might be, though I suspect it won’t be much.. While it’s nice having the bottom 6 depth, we have an abundance of left handed wingers to call up if needed, and they would be cheaper
Signing) Jonathan Toews
Yes, I know he said he was stepping back from hockey, but he said that in Summer and I’m hoping a 2.5m x 2yr offer from his hometown team will sway him to return and sign.
Summary)
Yes our prospect depth takes a bit of a hit in these moves, but the overall return and immediate NHL level improvement justifies the need. This would make the Jets a far more balanced and harder team to play against. This addresses our biggest issue of RHD, thereby improving our overall defence, and greatly improves our top 6.
Konecny shouldn't be a target for the Jets considering he only has two years of term, they should just keep Ehlers. Pulock is pretty much a pipedream, I don't see him becoming available; the Islanders finally got two great pairings again.
They should maybe target Lindholm out of CGY if he becomes available. Perhaps Zadorov for defense.
Hawks decline that deal as proposed. Lucius is a good prospect, but his skating and his injury history make him a player the Hawks can take or leave. Hawks might take Lucius and the 2nd for taking on Schmidt. But the Hawks aren't sending Raddysh unless the Jets up the ante.
