Description
Saw Jeff Veillette mention a retained Kadri as a good target for the Leafs...and honestly he would be an awesome 3LC for a team that recognizes their secondary scoring is a weakness. For Calgary, getting an asset for a retained Naz might be a better option than hoping he gets off this path that is leading to a possible buyout. They can either start the rebuild or retool around a center that's not simultaneously old and signed for 7 years at a high salary. Maybe they can move Klingberg for a pick at the deadline if they put him in the right spots

No reason for Ottawa to do that.

Even getting like 800K retention per year would be a challenge.

If they start to rebuild or even retool, it might make more sense than keeping Kadri and having to buy him out down the line. But yeah I'm not sure they would do it either.

Some Defensive depth wouldn't hurt IF Lagesson was a RHD

Smejkal can be a very solid player, so unless Ottawa is getting another guy with similar potential there's no point doing it.

Yeah but hard to say until he plays some NHL games. Pre-season doesn't tell enough

I mean, I totally agree in terms of skill. But if the Sens are calling up Zack MacEwen to play 4 minutes instead of calling up Smejkal, that doesn't seem like they're that high on him...

Yeah but without Dorion... who make these calls? DJ I would assume...

Not that I trust his decisions as well...

Would have been smarter to just have Smejkal earn his NHL salary and not piss him off, he was an UFA signing and we will need to attract these in the future

They'd be lower on Lagesson who'd be like 15th on the Sens D depth chart.

Yeah but trading him for a 27 year old AHLer defenseman with a low ceiling is dumb.

Believe it's Bowness who mostly makes these calls

Lagesson is actually pretty decent, I wouldn't mind having him but agreed that we shouldn't need to sacrifice Smejkal to acquire him (if available)

That said, if they're not going to use Smejkal and watch him fly overseas... might as well do this

Who the hell would fake something as minor?

I think it was a rumour that just turned out to be false.

Who knows? Hopefully Smejkal sticks around all year and gets some games
