I don’t see any trade to Buffalo that I would like and I don’t Leon signing long term there.

That group of centers is terrible, excluding McDavid of course. The Kings and the Knights would eat them alive in the post season. Even Vancouver is light years better at center.

If your goal was being the 4th best team in the division and seeing a first round playoff exit then this is a good start to that end.

Is that because you want McDavid and Drai to stay around no matter what? That would make sense then but Buffalo could offer some very attractive pieces otherwise.

How is Novak terrible?

Savoie is young but promising. If he hits right away, it could be good but fair that he may need some time.

It's not like you could say this team is better than Vegas with Drai either. Van and LA are pretty much in the same boat but obviously Van is on a tear. Not sure anyone would say LA, Van or Edmonton are actually cup contenders today.

If it's McDavid's team, there's no way Draisaitl gets traded. Trading Draisaitl for Savoie + Oloffson + Jokiharju doesn't really bring balance to this team. They just face a huge setback down the middle, and lose out on scoring production and add a defender that is probably not going to change their dcore. If they are looking for balance via a Draisaitl, they need to maintain a good 2C (Savoie isn't good enough yet) and upgrade the defense.

As an individual he's fine. But he's also 26 with 89 games of NHL experience so when you put him in the same group as 19 yr-old, zero games played Savoie then the group is WEAK. You are putting enormous pressure and expectations on two guys that have no track record of being able to handle that.

Because their problems are in goal and on defense. If you want to fix the team you have to address the problems.

That's fair to say 10 games into the season. We'll have a lot better idea if any of these teams are legit at the trade deadline.

I keep seeing this idea, that buffalo isn't a place that players wanna stay long term. To be fair, until recently it's been true, but we are now seeing players signing long term, and the Sabres aren't overpaying to do it. Thompson, power, cozens, and Samuelsson all probably left money on the table when they signed here. I don't think the Sabres need to be looking at mcdavid or draisaitl, of course cost would matter, but the Sabres are probably better off looking for help on defense for now.

Vancouver always had a good roster up front, their defense wasn't great, but they improved it significantly, and Demko is back to playing elite goaltending, so they are closer to contender status than people give them credit for just because they don't have any results yet which is fair because a lot of their core lacks playoff experience outside of one run.

LA is probably just a goalie away.

The Oilers need Skinner or Campbell to play well, but the biggest thing they need is another defender that can make a difference on that blueline.

I am open to trading Leon if we are getting a prime defenceman back. Buffalo isn’t going send us Dahlin or Power, so it’s useless.
