I think Calgary looks for term on any player they get at this point. Unless someone ups the pick or a prospect to take on an expiring deal.

Why is that? I feel like theyd rather have flexibility and picks going forward. Think Garland would be a better fit in the deal?

I also think if they add Tanev it would be to have him play toughs with Hughes and Millers line. Freeing up Hronek to feast on a pairing with Cole and the Pettersson line 5 on 5.

Because Calgary will never retool to the studs, they have a ton of cap flexibility coming up this offseason and I personally think they should be filling the pipeline with guys two or three years out of their draft that are ready to jump to the NHL in a year or so instead of guys who have a 3 - 5 year timeline to make it. Especially with Markstrom, Backlund, Andersson having 3 years left on deals. Just my thoughts on how it should go which means nothing!

Pretty tough to seperate Hughes and Hronek right now but the flexibility Tanev would bring to the pairings is insane!

We should get a very good return for Tanev given the demand for him and especially if we retain up to 50% on him; this here certainly isn’t it though

Still need to bring something in to help Huberdeau, and although I’d prefer Duclair, I thought Beauvillier 50% retained might be worth a shot

Say Beau 50% retained + Raty/3rd/? FOR RFA Dube?

I also wonder if Garland 30%/$1.45mil retained = $3.5mil/yr might not be bad in exchange for Dube either, since he’s a Right Shot and Brings a Ton of Energy and Even Strength Scoring ability. Dube’s probably gonna want a raise anyways and hasn’t broken out like I had expected

Thoughts!?

Demand may not be as high as Flames fans think right now, only way they maximize is holding on until the deadline and finding a bidding war which is a dangerous game because they could be left with no suitors by that time. If the Flames can get a 1st in a deal for him they should take it, I think a team closer to picking between 15 - 25 would be on the table before they take the Leafs pick.

No need to pay to bring in a piece other than maybe Duclair this off season as a UFA to play with Huberdeau, get to January and see if Pelletier is close to coming back and strap him to Huberdeau like their lives depend on it.

Dube isn't pulling anything of significance in a trade, he's interchangeable in any line up in the league and people can find his production at a lower cost all over the place.

Dube's gotta return something. A 3rd + Pending UFA they don't have future plans for and are playing on the 4th line isn't really anything of significance imo

I'm sure Dube would be a better fit on VAN than Di Giuseppe, Joshua or Garland (I'd say Suter too, but at least he can be trusted and is more reliable defensively)

That said, he's not producing any better than Beauvillier or Hoglander and they could just call up any of Podkolzin, Aman, Raty, Sasson, Bains, Karlsson, Dries or McDonough I guess, but can they help out and and play on the PK?

Any comment or interest in Garland 30% retained!?

I would take Joshua and Di Giuseppe at a combined 1.6M over Dube at 2.3M this season so far. Points/60, SOG/60, PDO, all relatively similar while Dube is the only one getting PP time.

Garland at 30% would be great for a team buying, but also the kind of deal only a selling team would make that's willing to retain, which the Canucks are not, Vancouver has to re-sign Petersson, Hronek, DeSmith*, next season, OEL's cap hit goes up 2.2M next season, they have 31M projected in cap space with 11 expiring deals. I don't think they're in a place to retain anything for the foreseeable future.

Makes sense, but the Canucks have been rumored to be willing to retain up to 30% The Canucks are reportedly willing to retain up to 30 per cent of Garland’s contract to facilitate a deal.

I'd be super surprised but fair enough.
