I think it would cost a 3rd to move Carter's contract

Frost is off to a bad start but, at 24 and after last season I'd think he's worth a little more than what you're offering, maybe an additional 4th. Not a big difference but, that trade looked like one of those so close but, for far situations

I'd probably do that. We'll need a bit of cap space for when Pinto comes back plus having the Joseph brothers would be cool.

Thought it would be a nice reward for his brother having a solid start, and change of scenery for both

Ottawa's blueline doesn't need to get worse defensively

This is a strange way of saying you think that the value is off when others have been fine with it

Is Joseph really worse than Brannstrom defensively?

no issues with the OTT deal thats fine.

The Flyers deal is the troll post.

You know they wouldn't trade with the penguins let alone give Frost away for basically nothing. Plus you also know Carter isn't waiving to go anywhere, specially not back to Philly lol

Pretend there's a third team like the Streit deal (but there are new front office folks on both sides, who cares)

Carter and Frost have a near identical stat line this year, and a 2nd + Smith is not 'nothing'

Why would Carter not waive? He played with Briere, could retire a Flyer, and the whole thing with him coming to Pittsburgh was proximity to family in central PA

That's fine, but it still wouldn't happen. Third team or not.

Carter has no desire to go back to Philly, there was a ton of fallout from that offseason trade moving on from both he and Richards. If anything I bet he'd rather retire a King.

He wouldn't waive because he wants to stay on a team that's gunning for a Stanley Cup push, it's his final season.

Smith at this point isn't worth anything. They tried to trade him and even waived him and no one took him... that tells you all you need to know about his value.

Weirdly confident on the first point, no one knows what will happen, the world is a mystery

That was 10+ years ago? Are you his therapist?

You don't get your name on the cup if you don't play... I imagine he wants to play. He already has his cups

Smith has value because he's cleared waivers.... so he doesn't have to go back through to develop in Philly's system... he also has the same stat line as Frost this season...

Not his therapist, just have enough brain cells to look at his career and realize he spent a big part of it in LA and was a piece on their cup runs. Why would he want to go back to a team to retire that didn't believe in him and shipped him off. He and his wife are also staying in Pittsburgh once they retire because they like it so much. You think a true Flyer would do that lol, specially when Philly is closer to where his wife is from...

The team can still put your name on the cup. Ask Letang if his is on the 17 cup team or if Phil's is on the Vegas cup.... injuries also happen as you know, never know when Carter may end up playing.

Frost is also playing for a coach stuck in the 80s, he'd probably do much better elsewhere. Smith doesn't have value, but whatever you need to do to tell yourself he does. If a team thought he had an ounce of anything they would've claimed him off waivers or called for a trade. Dude just doesn't have it.

By a lot (last year)

Brannstrom on the other hand crushed 3rd pairing defensive metrics, his EV Defense war was like 92%

Brannstrom doesn't really need a "change of scenery", although it's not that easy to play defense for DJ Smith but he still did extremely well last season despite that and also playing with a guy (Holden) who fell off a cliff so hard that he had to retire, and who didn't even try to get a contract or a PTO

However getting Mathieu's brother would be good and if it could lit a fire under his ass as well, then why not?

But 1v1 Sens lose that trade probably quite easily
