The Leafs have a golden two-year window to win

Created by: alwaysnextyear
Team: 2017-18 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: Jul. 3, 2017
Published: Jul. 3, 2017
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
They should be fine cap-wise to be able to re-sign Nylander next year, but Matthews and Marner will get mega-deals in 2 years, with Gardiner getting a raise as well. They should go all-in and try to get a cup in the next two years before they have to make the hard roster-trimming decisions.

Thanks, but nah. It was fun, but I ended up acquiring and trading Ekblad three times in my tenure. That told me it was time to move on, haha.

Trading away the future is not the move. Yeah we could contend in the next 2 years, OR we could be a consistent playoff team for the next 2, and contend for the following 8 years.

Kapanen and Dermott both have top line upside, with both likely falling in the top 2 lines in their career and they will contribute for the next 10 years on the leafs. I still think the leafs get the better end of this deal for this season, but a rebuilding team is not caring too much about this seasons outcome.

Think Kapanen and Dermott will be good, don't want to trade them, but cannot argue with anything you have said. And you have to give to get. I feel like you do whatever you can to win now- as the kids are at entry-level. Gardiner/Tanev is a really good pair.

This is by far the most reasonable, realistic take I have seen on the ArmChair GM tool. I would give it 5 Stars, just don't know how to do that.
