The options and risks associated with the Oiler's situation are as follows
1. Do nothing - McDavid and others become impatient and demand a trade
2. Fire Coach - the new system takes too long to implement and the Oiler's can't rebound fast enough. There was an article the other day that outlined the odds of making the playoffs if the team was more than 4 points back after U.S. Thanksgiving, those odds were 10-15% over the last 30 years. Not looking good for the Oilers and something big needs to change to fix it.
3. Fire the GM - lengthy process and may not be a big enough jolt to the lineup as player or coaching changes.
4. Make some significant trades - have to overpay and pay to dump contracts, may take some time to develop chemistry between players, short term future is depleted after trading top picks and prospects. Not the worst thing since the Oiler's are in win now mode and the average age of the roster is 28.3 years old and your top 2C's are uner 30 (McDavid is 26, Draisaitl is 28)
All this to say that the best course forward whether fans like it or not is to give up the short term (3-5 year) future and go all in
