I guess the Hawks would do it, but would probably ask for a 2nd instead. Probably easier to do a 1st + Kling for Murphy and maybe we send back a 3rd or 4th.

Yeah, I didn't want to take cap back, nor did I want to trade both firsts. You are probably right on value if Chicago recognizes they can squeeze the Leafs.

I don't think CHI accepts. Also, I'd be willing to bet that CGY is on McCabe's no trade list. But who knows.

Good point about McCabe, I hadn't considered that.

That Calgary trade is horrible. McCabe is better than Zadorov and Tanev at 33 isn't worth that much. He'll fetch a 1st and a mid-range prospect MAX

I'd think this is a pretty good lineup...

    Reilly - Murphy
    McCabe - Brodie
    Gio - Lilly

or figure out a way to do
    Reilly - Tanev
    Brodie - Murphy
    McCabe - Lilly

It's going to cost the two 1sts at least (probably need to add Topi N as well) to acquire both Murphy and Tanev with retention plus move out Kling. I keep proposing as a cap saving move Kling + Sammy + 1st for Murphy + Mrazek 1/2 retained. That gets the leafs cap space plus an upgrade on D and goalie (at least as of now) and allows them to go after Tanev retained as well.

Needless to say, better roster then today.

I tend to agree with you. Don't feel Kyle is anxious to add more mid round picks. But getting Hirvonen as well might make it worth while for the Hawks. Under contract for rest of this season plus next. Waiver exempt. And costs nothing to get him. I'm not a big Hirvonen fan but who knows?

I don't think the Leafs defense is actually bad, more like it has very weak links (Klingberg mainly). So moving Klingberg in a small and painless deal is best case scenario for the Leafs IMO, to either free up cap space for a deal or a spot for Lagesson.

Also Sammy will probably be fine and hes only on a one year deal, no need to move him.
