You probably don’t get a deal for Draisaitl with an extension started without starting with Sanderson. Oilers need a cornerstone defender and they’re not moving Draisaitl for anything less

The sens can't give up Sandy so I guess the deal collapses.

I second this. Sanderson is not going anywhere

Sorry but as good as Draisaitl is, this is an horrible trade for Ottawa and would place the team in a really bad situation going forward.

You're giving up to get him :

Chabot
Norris
Batherson
Brannstrom
1st
2nd

As we have noticed when both Chabot and Brannstrom were injured, the team's transition game was hurt badly. Sens were constantly outchanced in all these games.

Norris and Batherson are not back to their 2021-22 level yet but they were a deadly duo together, basically a whole 2nd line by themselves.

Plus picks we can't afford to trade much

Draisaitl doesn't have term and will command a HUGE extension IF the Sens were able to re-sign him

This is not worth it at all. IF Draisaitl really wants to come to Ottawa, sign him as an UFA in less than 2 years.

Also, Tyler Boucher has very low chances to play in the NHL at this point, and even less on a 3rd line.

130 point centres in their prime never become available in this age of hockey. If you’re not willing to pay a premium, you wouldn’t get him. Understandable if Ottawa doesn’t want to pay it, but Edmonton has no reason to move Draisaitl either.

Sanderson + Pinto + 1st would be the starter. From there it would depend what style the Oilers are looking for but another second tier quality piece would be needed and likely a project piece with some upside.

My guess:
Sanderson
Pinto
2025 1st
Boucher
2026 2nd (turns to a 1st if Ottawa wins a cup)

OP is giving up :

Chabot
Norris
Batherson
Brannstrom
1st
2nd

Which is more valuable than what you just proposed.

Anyway, I'm passing on both. I'm fine with the talent on the team. Sens are 3rd in GF/GP, Stutzle, Sanderson and Greig are 21 y/o, Greig is injured, Chabot too, Pinto is suspended. They're fine. Need a whole new coaching staff though and another defensive RHD though
