Why wait till the Deadline and What makes you think Hanifin is worth so little in return or can you please justify this offer!?

I think the value here is good, Arizona just doesn't strike me as being ready to deal away first round picks. Even with all the second rounders they have, I think they'd rather move those. When they made the Chychrun trade, Armstrong cited the quality of the Ottawa pick being better than the quantity of other picks they were offered, so I imagine that philosophy hasn't changed

How much is he worth then?
And also this deal can happen whenever, doesnt need to be at deadline.

Very possible. I have just seen Elliotte Friedman mention them as a team having interest in Hanifin so who knows. They have so many prospects I think they would be willing to lose one first rounder.

The only thing insufficient about this trade is brown. Soderstrom is a solid prospect and the possibility of the first moving to 2026, unprotected is tantalizing. Calgary doesn't need to take back a ton of cap in this deal, which it would with most other teams. That leaves them open to take picks for retention elsewhere at the trade deadline.

1st/Top-10 Protected + 2nd + 3rd/Langlois + Former Top Prospect/Soderstrom + Roster Dump/M.Dumba

Nest Comparable is Hampus Lindholm and most recent is Vladislav Gavrikov

Your Title says Deadline. My concern is ARI’s probably last on the list of Team’s Hanifin would want or be willing to Play for….

Soderstrom would absolutely be a piece and part of this Trade, but he’s in his last year of Waivers Eligibility and turn 23 in February. Top-10 Protected 1st is a Given, but ARI’s wanting to start getting more competitive and are no longer the laughing stock bottom feeder Team they were and should only get better, especially with a Guy like Hanifin, so even in that pick moves to 2025 and is unprotected, it probably won’t be a Top-10 Pick, thus we want more and I’d poach Calgary Raised Dumba over taking Brown back for sure

You put too much faith in Arizona's stability. Cap space is king and Calgary could parlay that into additional assets on deadline day. Dumba provides nothing but another mediocre finish. I'd rather have Calgary draft high this year so the odds of Montreal receiving FLDs pick instead of Calgary's is higher. For 2025, and assuming Calgary gets Florida's 1st: if Calgary’s pick is top 10 and Florida’s pick is not top 10, then Montreal would receive Florida’s pick. This is the only optimal solution for Calgary. I don't see Florida tanking, but it's unbelievable just how bad this trade screwed Calgary for years to come. I'd rather have Monahan than Kadri right now.

Well the past is the past and hindsight is always 20/20, so don’t waste your time and energy thinking about what could or should have been, work towards figuring this out

Moving Hanifin is part of that and if you read a couple posts up, I achieve what you want for him and then some

I don’t really think many of the Teams doing well this year so far will be able to maintain their play and that both EDM & CGY can still turn things around, but I don’t you can really argue that Hanifin would improve ARI even more than they are now. They need a Star Vet Top-4 D-Man and Hanifin is still considered Young for the position. The only problem is I don’t think Hanifin will want to play there. I’m assuming he wants to play in the Eastern Congerenve where there’s less travel and he’s closer to Home and his Family

AZ will likely be in Salt Lake City, so only time will tell.

Calgary isn't turning this around, nor should they: This team isn't good; they were not good last year; They have a weak prospect pool, no elite talent (beyond Anderson and Wolf) and too many aging contracts to continue down this path. Restock, draft legit 1 & 2 Cs and try again.

Yeah you’ve been saying that since I joined lol

Flames Ownership is never going to do that and other than Top 15-20 Picks, which still aren’t guaranteed to produce an NHL Player, let alone an Elite One, is just playing the lottery

I’m more of an optimist myself otherwise I’d switch to a Team that doesn’t frustrate or depress me so much or I’d just walk away from the sport for awhile
