GM’s don’t wait multiple years to see IF a guy even gets to free agency or IF he would even sign with their team. This is such a dumb fan perspective. If you wait 2.5 years then your window to win is smaller - if you get him now it helps you win now and possibly even more within that window and they take that chance because a GM job isn’t guaranteed.

If McDavid became available you can bet every team would be looking to acquire him now and not wait.
