Yep. Everyone suggesting CHI should load up is either not very smart, or is just hoping CHI's rebuild is a miserable failure.
Also, I know Nylander would be fun to watch with Bedard, but what other reason do they have for signing him?
-He will be 28 next summer and there is a good chance his contract doesn't age well.
-He wants a $10M+ AAV.
-He wears 88, which would be pretty awkward so soon after Kaner's departure. Plus, by the time it isn't "too soon", 88 will be retired.
-This rebuild is nowhere close to being complete. Adding that kind of talent will just steal us games and mess with our draft position.
-We can always trade for him down the road if we are closer to contention, our draft picks are presumably later, we have a better idea of which prospects will be sticking around, and if he is still playing at a high level. Or if he takes a short term deal, we can sign him as a free agent in a few years when it makes more sense, and again, if he is still playing at a high level.
Simply put, there is just no need to sign him right now. And I tend to believe that KD has more patience than to sign someone like Nylander at this point in the rebuild.
