Description
Klingberg needs to be out on LTIR that opens up a lot of space for moves to happen

The trade with the flames will bring two decent tougher defence man into our line up. Brodie is moved to clear up cap space plus I don’t think our GM likes him (previously tried to trade him from the flames and then let him walk as a free agent) we package some young players with good potential with a high draft pick. To further this move I included Vladar Calgary has three guys in net and one of them being wolf needs more playing time in the NHL to develop.

I’m immediately moving Vladar to Edmonton. They are dying for a guy who can make a save and he has shown to be a good goalie in the past. I think Edmonton are getting desperate for someone and will over pay 2 2nd round picks to get some help. This deal re pups assets from the flames trade and gives us either draft capital or a trade chip for later.

I think with the upgraded defence core we become much bigger in our own end making our goalies jobs easier and our team better overall. Calgary can still move Brodie at the deadline to get a return on an expiring contract. He hasn’t played bad this year but I think it’s time to move in from him to shake up the group and have some fresh blood before the post season.

This whole thing makes another problem when Liligren is activated from LTIR but the team can figure that issue out when it’s time for home to return. It’s likely someone else could be on LTIR by then. That’s an issue for later.

I look forward to the negative criticism. Keep in mind I don’t think our offer to the flames is that great either but I’m at work and need something to make it look like I’m keeping busy.

With the NHL roster spots opened I would hope the team offers Bellows a deal on the marlies since he’s been so good for us so far

Oilers don't have cap and Vladar isn't getting two 2nds any time soon.

Trading Brodie would be a mistake. If Klingberg ends up on LTIR, they just send down Laegesson and pay for Zadorov and Tanev to come in with 50% retention each.

No one is paying a second let alone two for Vladar, secondly why would Calgary not just make that trade with Edmonton themselves? Third, those prospects don't move the needle in a trade. Abruzzese has good AHL numbers, so did Matthew Phillips. Ovchinnikov is undersized for an AHL forward let alone an NHL defensman. Flames have zero need for Brodie. Hardest of passes.
Gmonwy, Erbas1915 and oilfire liked this.

You're overvaluing Abruzzese and Brodie from Calgary's perspective, and you're neglecting how subtracting Brodie, to add Zadorov and Tanev, isn't much of an upgrade.

I understand the "Brad doesn't like him" angle but it's too flimsy.

When the explanation is that long, it's probably pretty fantastic.

Trust me, I know from experience.

Would you like to hear my rationale for trading Calgary's ufa defensemen to Edmonton? It's pretty crazy and mostly stems from not wanting to help Brad and Toronto.

The Flames won't package d-men, completely ruins their market position. You get Zadorov or Tanev, not both.
