"Win"nipeg with the sedins

Created by: TotheNorth
Team: 2017-18 Winnipeg Jets
Initial Creation Date: Jul. 4, 2017
Published: Jul. 4, 2017
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
just an interesting option. Having the Sedins on the third pairing will allow them to play much lesser opponents likely making the Jets a major contender for the cup being able to effectively run all four lines and all three D pairings. Van pushes on with the rebuild and goes tank job for Dahlin with another 1st round pick in the mix for next year as well while getting some young good players.

Do Jets fans really want the twins that bad?
It just seems like a little too much potential AND your top two draft picks just for two players way out of their prime that haven't won anything but a conference title in their career.

Looks good on paper though, even though Petan and Connor playing that high in the system could be a stretch. I don't know how Perreault would feel playing on the fourth line without any kind of special team minutes (which is what he excels at).

Backed up against the cap wall too, not much to work with

But if that's what Jets fans think will win the cup, it is a pretty deep team, it's just that if you dont win now you have a very small window with the Sedins.

It's a 1 year rental to go all in while the likes of Trouba, Laine, Ehlers, Morrisey, Connor are on ELC's. No plan on re-signing the Sedins unless they take a huge paycut to play on the third line (which, if they're close to winning the cup they might).

Not that the Sedins are going anywhere IRL, but this is a pretty reasonable package to give up for the Jets. None of Copp, Tanev or Armia are going to be future game breakers, and their 2018 1st rounder should be quite a bit later with this roster.

I like the rental part, which is why I gave 3 instead of 2. As for Perreault, how do you all think he would feel playing on fourth without any special team time? and what would be the next steps if someone gets injured while you only have 100,000 cap space?

But what happens with the depth once the Sedins are gone? Those 3 might not be game breakers, but they are affordable options for depth that a team that any team looking for a deep run would want to have.

The Sedins basically put their families first and that's what nixing any trades, even if it means leaving lots of money on the table or retiring early.

But a trade deadline deal where they go away on an adventure for a few months without uprooting their family, and at an age where their kids are old enough to understand? For the first time you have me thinking it's not impossible

A good GM can always find decent value depth players in free agency. It's the star players that you don't want to have to overpay for on July 1st. Besides, even without those three or the Sedins, Winnipeg still has the makings for a pretty solid top nine if guys like Petan, Lowry, Dano and Connor develop as they should.

When you win a cup, you do really well trading away any pieces you can't afford for the next couple seasons. It is a gamble. and every team that wins a cup has to take a gamble at some point.
