Description
So now I guess 2 biggest questions remaining after all signings are, what about length and $ of Hyman/Brown contracts AND when will JVR/Bozak be traded?.
I was always thinking Brown 1year prove it deal or 2yrs max, still RFA after that to decide on longer term BUT, now with Marleu signing, I would try to sign him to the longer term possible at a reasonable cap hit, at least 4yrs at max 3M, if he accepts that could be huge. Hayman 2yr deal max 2M
What about JVR/Bozak?, I would keep them both this year and only trade at the deadline if season has gone sideways and no chance to make playoffs. If we are playoff team by then, keep them! this team looks good on paper now.
Next summer who knows?, if we made playoffs and see how deep you got, if JVR has another 60+ pts and Bozak 50+ season again...Leafs can offer them a fat 1yr contract like 7-8M JVR and 6M Bozak and make another run at it before extensions for Mathews and Marner kick in...or maybe Tavares is available to sub Bozak, or Thorton if he still can skate...
Komarov IMO will be extended 2-3yrs as he is our best defensive forward, shutdown guy killing penalties etc...we have many wingers and at least one should be able to sub JVR, Bozak we still thin at C but hopefully a drafted guy like Brooks develops or can find options outside or move Nylander to C eventually.
I think for camp the roster would look like below, last year Babcock had 8D, I would think this year will be 7 and have 2 scratches as forward so there is one wing and one C available in case injuries at forward. You can always bring up Kapanen, Shosh or anybody else but Rychel & Greening without need to go through waivers to go back to Marlies.
On D I think Marchenko doesnt make team, I have Rosen as 7th D bcz can play both LD RD, maybe he or Dermott/Nielsen/Borgman get on top of Marincin on LD but I dont see him been sent down.

Like your thinking on the lineup. Hopefully two/three guys in bottom 6/7/8 spots can be competent NHLer Dmen as you suggest, but who they are?????
Agree with the Leafs best shot at the playoffs and maybe a deep run, the Leafs will have to keep Bozak, JVR and Komarov all year. Don't if the Leafs will have upcoming cap room to sign any of them in 2018/19 but like all teams, maybe a prospect emerges an earns a spot at low salary.

fast forward a couple years and try filling the roster with Horton and Marleau on the books

Leafs might want to pack in as many RFA years into contracts like Brown's and lower the cap hit.
This timid plan is the opposite of what they need. Once Matthews played his first game it started a chain of events that can't be slowed down.
Team looks a lot like COL a few years ago, no D and all forward

goldie078. Don't know why you think the Leafs don't have any Dmen? Admitting the Leafs will need growth from last years rookies Carrick and Zaitsev, but certainly Reilly, Gardiner and Hainsey are solid NHLers.

Dude stop comparing this team to Colorado. We are NOTHING like Colorado. We have a ton of firepower up front we have solid D and a top 10 (IMO) goalie in the league. We also have one of the, if not the, best coaches in the league. We have a lot more pieces in place then COL did when they had their fluke year. Do a team comparison and you'll see that. Again I ask that you do your homework before making uneducated comments

Don't know what team goldie078 supports but he seems to make a lot of comments about the Leafs. Concur with Laynious, I don't think goldie078 has even watched a Leaf game.
