Description
Calgary trade is based on rental price, no retention. Caps fans are weary of extending Lindholm, and want Kuzy gone before bringing him in.

Kuzys NTC likely restricts him from Calgary, so he's gotta go somewhere else.

It's a terrible return for Calgary but it's getting paid for cap space instead of vice versa.

Columbus trade is just a stab at the dark trying to predict what yall scouts are up to.

Your derision is likely deserved.

Why would CAL care if it's only a rental? That's an awful trade for them

Flames decline. Thats a subpar return for Lindholm, not aure why we are adding Mangiapane for free

Calgary is gonna want another significant piece in that deal but I don’t think it makes sense for the caps to meet that price.

CBJ fans are gonna flip on that trade probably.

I obviously value cap and roster space a lot more than you.

Not potentially losing a deal because Lindholm wants too much money is worth something.

What lindholm wants isn't CAL problem once he's traded. Someone is going to pay big for lindholm

Somebody will pay big for a reasonable contract, they may pull a deal if they can't negotiate one.

They will expect to pay less without negotiating.

I already said it was a terrible return for Calgary.

Is there a difference between rental and extended price?

Cap space only has value if you have something to use it on. Mangiapane is on pace for 50 even strength points again. He is not a "throw in"

I see 12 million dollars between Dube, Lindholm, and Mangiapane. I also see them rotating around the lineup like a carousel. We're married to a bunch of guys we can't move, move what we can.

We need elite talent but we can't afford it.

I want to see kids like Coronato and Pelletier, I want Huska to have some new options because I've seen every iteration of this lineup (or so it feels like).

I want Huby to get his confidence back on a line away from Backlund, and I want that slot taken by a kid instead of Mangiapane.

And I definitely don't want to give him a raise based on the career year he's going to have next year.

Take contracts and retentions for picks, cap space is infinitely more useful than spending to the cap to be mid.

But what you aren't getting is that
1. Rome wasn't built in a day, we aren't turning this around in 1 offseason
2. Mangiapane and Dube have value. That return is pretty mediocre for Lindholm by himself. Why would we not just trade Mangiapane for value by himself or next year with retention? You are literally giving a good player in his prime away for free.

I have to admit that I am being reactionary and that slow and steady is likely the smarter move.

But

Teams that win throw Marc Andre Fleury and Max Pacioretty to wolves.

Sometimes you just gotta slam yourself face first into a pile of cocaine and scream "say hello to my little friend".

I would like to accelerate the retool of the forward group, before making final decisions on the back end. Get the kids playing more, let's see what we've got in the system, and what we should buy with Hanifin and Tanev should it come to that.

But I do concede I'm not maximizing returns.

Should be able to get more out of Washington, would likely need to take more, they've got alot of contracts and roster players.

This is not going to be a 4-5 year retool. This will be a 2 year, maybe 3 max retool, like LA. Calgary's goal should be to get 5 1sts in the next 2 years or about 10 picks in the first 2 rounds in the next 2 years.

Lets take that GSVA chart that was posted in that NJD thread the other day. If we traded Hanifin to Arizona for Soderstrom and their 1st their 1st will probably end up around 17th -20th OA. That is a GSVA of 4.0-4.5. If we were to get 3 of their 2nds instead of the 1st in the next 2 years, assuming all 3 picks are from playoff teams (ie Toronto Florida, NYR) we're looking at GSVA's of 1.1 to 1.6 for each pick, that would be about the same worth as the 20th OA pick.

Then we can end up in a position like LA where 2 years from now we could trade a prospect like Brock Faber (2nd round pick in 2020) in a deal to get a player like Fiala makes sense.

I'm sick of seeing Dube and Kadri, we know it doesn't work. We had to break up good chemistry after one bad game because all these guys play up and down the lineup.

I know it was Coleman that gave up one heck of a giveaway but overall that line, Huby in particular has been our best so far tonight.

Blender bets?

I say we see Lindholm loaded up with Kadri and Zary, he was looking his most dangerous while Kadri was on the ice last game.

Ruzicka centering a line with Dube and Mang? Don't think I've seen that.
