What good would Kokkonen be among Poirier, Kuznetsov, Solovyov, Kylington, Weegar, Morin. Feels like the most point less acquisition the flames could make.

If the Flames were unwilling to retain on Pia Zadorov, what makes you think that they would retain on Tanev?

The Flames had 4 upcoming UFAs to trade, but only 3 salary retention slots are allowed per team. By moving out Zadorov and not having to retain salary, they can easily retain on their remaining 3 UFAs.
