Schmid could be your long-term goalie. Just because he's not doing well at age 23, doesn't mean he has no future. Askarov is not NHL-ready yet. Moving Vanecek for someone else or bringing in help for the year makes more sense.

Askarov is certainly not ready to be a starting goalie in the NHL. He's still probably a year or 2 from being ready to be an NHL backup

I think Askarov is worth the gamble, the long term is what fitz needs to consider, the defenses underlying numbers haven’t been that bad. I think Askarov can step in but as some say “Goaltending is Voodoo”.

I think a Casey + Filmon/Hemeenaho would be the way to get nashville to go for it. They could use a prospect on the back end like Casey.
