Explanations:
- Walker: good skating shutdown RHD. Something we lack right now. Defensman have been pretty slow and caught out of structure so far.

- Broberg: a young rejuvenation project. We lack young players with potential and Broberg is cheap enough he’s worth taking a shot on. Especially with uncertainty on D long term outside Sergachev and Cernak.

- Elliott: Johansson isn’t getting it done. Elliott said he wants to play one more year. This lets him play in a spot he’s familiar with and maybe go on a run.

- Puljujärvi: signed to an AHL Contract coming off his major injury. Depth for Syracuse and possible an NHL deal eventually depending on how he plays.

Walker isn't really a shutdown defenseman, closer to a 2-way defenseman who is better offensively than defensively historically.

I’d rather keep Walker and sign him back than trade him for that. The cost is probably going to be a 1st round pick for him or 2nd + prospect

2nd pairing defenseman playing 21M per game for a cap hit of under 3M and retention as well. It is going to cost more a 3rd rounder 2 years out plus assorted garbage.
