Trade wouldn't happen for a few reasons, but even if it did Dallas wouldn't be the team adding in the trade. Between the fact that the remainder of Seguin's deal is half as long as Jones' and the fact that he's still an extremely viable middle-6 center & powerplay forward, Dallas wouldn't be the team that needs to add, much less adding Stankoven AND a 1st Round Pick.

What’s the Hawks obsession with Ryan Mcleod? Seen lots of hawks fans want to add him. Anyways he’s untouchable for the Oilers. Wouldn’t trade a 1st for him.

Take Mcleod out; and you can add Broberg as a high potential future and we would consider.

I wouldn't describe Seguin as "extremely viable". He is having a good start to the season following a bunch of very mediocre seasons. If we also consider his age, I'd bet he comes back down to earth long before his contract is up. That said, Seguin has all the control and I doubt he would allow this trade, I also think, considering his past, that CHI would not want to add another controversy or misconduct waiting to happen, to their roster. But, from the perspective of what DAL's speculated needs are and creating the cap space, a Jones for Seguin trade makes sense. With the firepower DAL has, they won't miss Seguin's point production at all. CHI has no reason to add in that scenario, and the fact that Seguin would, in no way, be part of CHI's future plans and is likely unflippable, makes it all the less appealing to CHI. The entire hypothetical scenario is there to address DAL's need for RHD. Also, before CHI traded for Jones, DAL was a very interested party, and it's Jones hometown.

Stankoven is definitely untouchable, though.

Thanks for the well thought out response.. jones is at top of his game and overpaid by maybe a mildo. Seguin has been overpaid by 4mil for almost 5 years and he has 4 more. Discounting intangibles and the value jones brings to the specific need is roughly 4mil per year x 6 i think is easily a top prospect and first rounder. I may be dreaming with stanky.. but suter is over his skis as evidenced by this last playoff. There’s zero chance stars swing too big, especially with how good they’ve drafted but hey, a boy can dream.

haha. For sure, we can dream. I would love to see Stanky and Bedsy together. Also, I think there is likely more interest in Jones around the league than most people believe. Especially a team that was in on him before the deal with CHI was finalized and is also in his hometown. Most opinions of him are just plain wrong, based on group think, and outdated analytics. If Kyle Davidson is doing his job correctly, there should be no reason to move him at any point during the remainder of his contract other than getting assets for him, and even then it would require him waiving his NMC.

Mcleod is just about to pop, Oilers know this though. So it’ll be tough to be buy low. Mcleod is hugely important for the Oilers line up.

Broberg is still the same plus sized defender with elite skating that was going to need a lot of time to get use to NHL speed. I dunno I really think he just needs a full season of regular NHL ice time and he becomes what he was slated to be at the draft. Some team is going to get a steal for him, and he’ll play in their top 4 for a decade.

Can’t say I’ve watched watched him.. but most defensemen take time to develop. Especially if they are trying to actually play defense . Dmen and goalies are judged more by their mistakes and it takes refining on another level. I hope we get him and he becomes a stud lol. Would you trade him for reichs?

I love the German connection with Drai. And I love that he was drafted post Tyler Wright. But I really don’t know enough of his game to say, I’ll have to watch some video. But a guy like Reichel, a former 1st who needs a different look or situation would definitely be in the ballpark of what the Oilers fans and team are looking for in an Broberg 1for1 swap.
