And the excuse for being nearly half a ppg behind jack this year?

I can't believe im still entertaining this cause this is going in circles but Jack hughes has played 4 less games and has only 2 more points the difference is not significant. Even if you bring him up to the same GP using his ppg (unlikely he'd have 1.54ppg in 4 straight games anyways) he'd only have 8 more points and he's still less of a team player so clearly the scoring difference isnt that significant when you account for how the players play off the puck (team play) and they're about on equal terms. I'm not going to discuss this in depth further because neither of us are getting anywhere so lets just drop it lol

That doesn't give any contrary evidence to when the injury occurred. Players battle through injuries all the time.

Please give me the dates for when this injury occurred and healed.

Its unclear on both but he was dealing with it long term and missed games with a knee sprain

matthews scored 40 goals his rookie season not playing top line minutes the whole year with rookie nylander and rookie hyman on his line. scored at a 40 goal pace with kapanen and johnsson on his line

And he had just 0.84 ppg that year, and some horrific defensive metrics.

And again, barely a PPG with those linemates, again horrific defensive metrics.

    Line 1:
    Matthews-Kapanen-Marleau: 46.5% xGoals share, 3.25xGoals against/60, in about 300 minutes
    Line 2:
    Kadri-Kapanen-Marleau: 52.7% xGoals share, only 2.57 xGoals against/60 in about 300 minutes

But hey thanks for proving the point by illustrating matthews struggles without elite linemates

Jack has 5 fewer games and 2 more points. But also I can just go the Leafs fan route and blame him only scoring 14 points in his last 12 games as still being injured.

You're right. 1.61 ppg for jack isn't what he would average (counting a 3 minute game to drag down averages is incredibly disingenuous narrative pushing) if he was healthy going forward. I should use his abitrarily defined "healthy" numbers (except unlike leafs fans I can point out when the injury occurred). That puts him at a "healthy" rate of 20 points in 9 games or 2.22 PPG.

He announced that he was feeling better on march 15th 2023 but its not totally clear when he was actually healthy, he had 17 points in 13 games afterwards and had 5 goals 2 assists in 6 games in the first round, in the handshake line of the 2nd round he was seen with some sort of brace or tape on his wrist so there was a little speculation he was hurt again in the 2nd round but nothing concrete came out of that

Ahh so he said on march 15th that "it had been feeling better lately"

So let's start counting healthy on the beginning of march.

From then to the end of the season:

    32 games, 17 goals, 37 points.

95 point, 44 goal pace for healthy matthews.

But if you want an actual example of a defined injury, with a defined date and impact:

Jack got hurt on February 9th last year. In the month after that, he missed time and overall had just 2 goals 14 points in 17 games in the month and a half proceeding it.

Outside of that he had 85 points and 41 goals in 61 games in 22-23. (full season pace of 55 goals, 114 points)
Pre Injury he had 67 points and 35 goals in 50 games. (full season pace of 110 points, 57 goals)

But hey, the injury excuse only applies to matthews and his vague, undefined injury that no leaf fan can give a timeline for when it started or ended

But hey, I like this method of evaluating stats:

Healthy Jack hughes over the last 2 years:

105 points, 70 games, 46 goals. Full season pace: 123 points, 54 goals.

Impressive that healthy jack hughes is already better than prime matthews at just 22 years old

what was jacks ppg his rookie year? he scored 40 goals in his rookie year, 40. with 2 rookies on his wing and pp2 time last person to do that was ovie, whos currently chasing down the record for most goals ever. jack reached career goal 40 in year 3 lmfao if jack works hard enough maybe one day he can win the mvp like matthews,

Irrelevant when matthews had a hand injury all season

Irrelevent when his hand injury doesn’t explain his complete lack of vision. Which is and always will be the an indicator of hockey IQ, which is and always will be what drives the best players in the game (all time). Lemiuex had it. Gretz had it. McD has it. Hughes has it on a lower level than those guys but much higher than Matthews.

Cool accolades from 2+ years ago

    Patrick Kane:
    3 cups
    1 Conn Smythe
    1 hart
    1 art Ross
    1 Calder
    2 100 point seasons
Glad to hear you think he’s better than Matthews right now

But hey since you value those areas:

    Last year
Hughes more points (closer to Art Ross)
Hughes more goals (closer to rocket Richard)
Hughes finished higher in hart voting
Hughes finished higher in lady byng voting

Oh speaking of that. Another area Jack surpasses in. He gets his team more opportunities on the power play than Matthews while barely taking any himself (because opponents can’t keep up with him).

It’s about 10x more meaningful than a Calder award from when Jack was 14 years old in terms of who’s a better hockey player today. Not putting your team on the penalty kill is a very valuable thing.

Jack Hughes doesn't take penalties. Taking penalties puts your team at a disadvantage. Not taking penalties is good.

Um ok but you dont have to win a useless trophy or be a finalist to be a player that doesnt take awful penalties all the time

Um ok but you dont have to win a useless trophy or be a finalist to be a player that doesnt take awful penalties all the time

And winning rookie of the year 8 years ago also has no bearing on today, but you decided to bring it up alongside a bunch of other years old accolades.

Talking about a 26 year olds glory days is wild
