God no.

Minnesota doesn’t trade Faber or JEE for Marner straight up let alone for everything here. And no, it has nothing to do with *value*.

JEE is the Wild's best center, which is a significantly bigger need for Minnesota than a playmaking winger. Even one as good as Marner. He's also on a steal of a contract while arguably the best shutdown center in the league now that Bergeron is retired.

Furthermore, retaining on Marner means absolutely nothing to the Wild. Great, he costs $5M for a season and a half. But he's going to once again cost $10M+ again after that. Meanwhile JEE costs $5.25M for the next SIX YEARS.

I know which one I'd rather have. And it's not the pricey winger.

Faber is already a top pairing defenseman at 21 years old. And is only going to get better with experience and age over the next decade. His value is probably close to or around the same as Luke Hughes right now.

He's not available nor would they ever consider moving him for this scenario.

IF I'm being honest, I'd trade Kaprizov before JEEK or Faber just due to the contract situation. Kaprizov has a full NMC that kicks in next summer and if he's not happy in a couple years, it's Gaborik all over again. Faber is a young defenseman with team control for at least 6 more years playing top pairing minutes, you don't trade that. JEEK is a legit top 6 center who can be matched up against the toughest lines to play against in the league, he was the anchor driving the GREEF line when it went a long time without being scored against at 5v5 play and now that he's playing with better wingers, his scoring is picking up. On his current deal, he can continue to slot in as 2c behind the elusive 1c they've never really been able to find aside from Staal's brief resurgence.

Marner is great, but he has a NMC, only another season before he can walk for free and will surely want a pay raise over his current deal (that honestly I think he's slightly overpaid on just due to him being a winger). Domi is a pending UFA, so that's nothing you couldn't try to sign in the summer for free if you wanted him. Timmins may be acquirable through waivers if Toronto ever gets healthy enough to need to send him to the Marlies. Robertson is a winger, which the Wild don't particularly need so that just adds up to being a pretty awful deal for the Wild.

(To be clear, I am NOT saying trade Kaprizov. I'm saying I'd trade him before the guys that the team has control over for a long time to come.)

Agreed.

Although from a team franchise perspective. The core untouchable list probably goes something like this.

Kaprizov
JEE
Boldy
Faber/Rossi
Wallstedt
Brodin
Spurgeon

And then everyone else. With no one on that list realistically being available or moved.

I'd add Foligno to the list because Guerin is going to Guerin, but otherwise agree completely. None of those guys are getting moved. I would have thought they'd be open to moving Rossi a month into the season, but I think he's earned a spot where they don't move him unless it's for something incredibly amazing coming back.
