Since Kempe and Kaliyev together are unlikely to exceed $10.5 million on their next deals, this would be exceedingly foolish for Los Angeles -- who, when last I looked, were doing better, and enjoying better odds to make the Conference finals, than Toronto. And why wouldn't YOU sign him to that deal?

Leafs obviously decline la you’re 2 1sts short, if nylander leaves it’s via free agency zero chance they trade him and hurt themselves for a playoff run

The Kings would rather keep Kempe at his cap hit and use the cap space for a goalie.

Also, not sure why Nylander wouldn't test the free market if the Leafs open up trade talks.

I'd rather have Kempe at $5.5M than Nylander at $10.5M.
