Remove Klingberg + extend Nylander first and you have a deal, otherwise keep dreaming. We'll retain enough on Hanifin or Tanev to balance the cap.

Personally, I pass as a Leafs fan. I like both Hanifin and Tanev, but the Flames haven't been able to win with them, so why trade a top end F (and top 10 scoring) for them. We need to upgrade the D, but not at the cost of Nylander. Get Willie, and Marner signed, and the Tavares cap hit will disappear after the next season and we can sign a top end D man then.

CAL should be looking at top end F / D prospects anyways for those two. It's a mini rebuild. Let Wolf take the net, and fill the team with picks and good to great prospects. The team will be much more fun to watch if they go that way

That's what the Flames probably should do. On the other hand adding Nylander with an extension would finally bring to Calgary the game breaker and the right shot goal scoring forward they've needed for such a long time all one player. But he'd have to come with an extension or sign an extension immediately after the trade.

I can't see that happening if the team trades Lindholm though, why would Nylander want to extend with a team that just lost their 1st line center? Toronto is looking for defense and Calgary is listening to offers on both Hanifin and Tanev so your never know... It probably won't happen but it makes at least some sense for both teams.

It's hard to just sign a top D. There is 32 teams that prob want him. Toronto doesn't have the biggest cap space and does not have the best playoff performance. Trading for them and having success in playoff might help to attract a good D and sign a good contract.
