I swear I've been hearing everyone including reporters talk about how bad Darnell Nurse is, and when I watch he play it's pretty poor. The Arizona overpay is based off that they take Darnell Nurse's garbage contract.

As an Oilers fan, Nurse is worth 6 mill max. People say he's trash because he's paid 9 mill a year. He's not that bad of a dman. Consistently puts up 40 points, without playing on the PP. Physical guy and skates extremely well for being 6'4" and 220 lb+.

I think people (yourself seemingly included) neglect the fact that he consistently takes on the team's shutdown minutes with a non-optimal RD partner (Bear, Barrie, and Ceci; none of these are genuine top-4 RD) and yet consistently contributes to driving play and keeping his team above water (94-89 on-ice goals at 5-on-5 w/o McDavid). He makes more coverage mistakes than you'd want out of a #1D but to me he's worth at least 7 to 7.5mil.

However, I agree with the general thrust of your point that the rage is due to his cap hit.

Nurse is overpaid by 2 million, but hes a fine fringe 1st pair guy. Not in the world of 3rd pair how the media portrays him to be
