And if Hanifin doesn't resign, we are basically back to where we are.

Even if he does resign. That's a gross over pay. Give up on Power in his sophomore slumps would ensure this GM would never have a front office job again

Agree, but the way its going and Adams doesn't adapt he doesn't deserve one.

omg this is such an overpay. This fan base should rightfully be mad, but this is just clueless. Giving up on power so early would be insanity. Do we not remember when dahlin was terrible and we all wanted him gone?

is it really an overpay though?
Buffalo is a far better team after this trade, no?

For the rest of this season, which they're pretty much already eliminated from playoffs already. They couldn't resign Hanafin without making sacrifices. Markstrom had 1 good season, don't really care about his gsax when he still has a .900 save%

Markstrom is the exact goaltender Buffalo needs.
fantastic goalie at a reasonable cap for only a couple more years.
leave Levi in Rochester for a full season or more to figure it out, by the time he is ready to be a true #1, Markstrom is out or on his way out.

sacrifices should be made to make Buffalo a better team - they will never be truly relevant running this young inexperienced lineup.
will it hurt to lose a guy like Power, absolutely, but for the betterment of the team, it makes sense.

what sacrifices will Adams need to make?
Buffalo already has too many young forwards - JJ, Quinn, Krebs, Benson, Mittelstadt, Cozens, Thompson, Kulich, Ostlund, Savoie, Rosen and god knows who else.
can't play them all, can't let them rot in the minors - time to use some of the past decades 1st rounders and build a winning team.

or they can be the team that will forever be in a "soft rebuild".

why?

#1 overall pick, stud defenseman, who is ONLY 21 years old
Why on earth would we move him?
Just give him an 8 year extension for a reason

Plus, the return for him blows
Weegar, already 29, signed into his late 30s & not the “defensive defenseman” we’re looking for
Same with Hanifin, except he’d be a RENTAL, which is dumb for us
And Markstrom is a pass as well

Power is not looking like much of a Stud. Weegar looks great and would 1000% be able to pay and re-sign Hanafin. Weegar is literally in the middle of his prime and would provide similar leadership to Pietrangelo w/ Vegas at a similar age to when he went there. Would only be a bad contract in his last 3 years but would only be slightly over 6 mil and easily movable with a bit of retention. Weegar next 3-4 years > Power and cost 2 mil less.

We aren’t gonna pay Weegar’s $6.5mil per & then sign Hanifin to a similar deal- it’s just not happening

Also, Power is only 21 years old
Idiots were talking $h!t about Dahlin his first few years too
There’s absolutely ZERO REASON to give up on Power now
Your trade proposal is brutal

Maybe u should listen when every other Sabres fan tells u how crappy it is…..
