The bigger issue is that those 5 players are all forwards. For me, it's not that it would be a bad contract, just a less than ideal asset allocation.

But Nylander has improved year over year and I'd rather give him the dollars to extend him and deal with it for a year until JT comes off the books (or re-signs on the cheap). If the options are

a) trade him at the deadline while we're a playoff team
b) let him walk as a UFA
c) re-sign him at $10m+

These big contracts are all about % of cap. So if he got Pasta's cap %, that would be an $11.84m/yr deal. At Gaudreau's cap %, it would be $10.27m/yr.

I think Gaudreau < Nylander < Pasta so figure he's in between those numbers. I'm just hoping for a 5yr deal for Nylander hopefully south of $11m
