No way Pittsburgh is doing this trade with Edmonton.
Easy pass for the Penguins.
Jake Guentzel is a keeper.

That joke of an offer isn't getting Jake Guentzel out of Pittsburgh.
Right now Edmonton has the 9th worst record in the league. I seriously doubt they even make the playoffs.

Easy pass, this is an awful offer for the penguins.

1st they need to become sellers at the deadline.

IF they become sellers then you're way off here.

You have to add more alone to take Ceci and Pickard who have no value, and Ceci with another year on his contract.

The pens have 2 open retention spots which means in this scenario they'd be left with 0. Ceci at full value returns nothing in a trade and if the pens can't trade him they eat it for another year.

IF the pens sell Ned will not get retained given he's a cheap value and with 2 retention spots the penguins would probably look to retain Guentzel and 1 of Smith or Pettersson.

So, big pass, way off in value.

First, love your city picture.
Second, as great as Jake is... and he is great, the Pens need to be in rebuild mode. They are not even close to being a top team, and they have no assets to give up to gain the pieces to compete with the top teams this year or next. Jake can help jumpstart the rebuild.

Well the idea is that the Oilers get some help to get them there. They are a team that has the two best players in the world on their team. They need to begin to make some trades to get help.

Great point about the retention spots.

Not here to debate the trade (Pens decline) more so you're thoughts on Edmontons playoff odds

- Edmonton has the best underlying numbers in the league, not just 4th or 5th but the very best and they have for a while. A team with the best underlying numbers has literally never missed the playoffs.
-They are 7-3-0 in their last ten after coming off an absolutely terrible start
-They are only 7 points out of a playoff spot with four games in hand (against some pretty weak teams)
- They have also done all of this with by far the worst goaltending in the entire league
-They also have faced one of the hardest schedules in the league their first 30 or so games (with 45% of those games coming against top ten teams)

I'd promise you right now that by February they are sitting in a playoff spot, they had seriously underachieved the first two months of the year due to some historically bad luck and historically bad goaltending.

The Pacific Division is garbage and by far the worst division in the NHL, That's the only reason Edmonton makes the playoffs. Because that division is a joke.

I would imagine it takes at least a 2nd round pick just to dump Ceci's contract.

Moving outside of that, Pickard is nothing, Guentzel is worth way more than just a 1st, and the Pens would be better off keeping Nedeljkovic instead of trading him just because.

Pens are not in rebuild mode and will not be with Crosby on the roster. This doesn't happen.

A division with two young strong contenders for the next 3-5 years in Vancouver and LA, two cup contenders in Vegas and Edmonton (yeah I'm calling Edmonton a cup contender still), two young teams with upside in Seattle and Anaheim who will both probably be playoff teams in the next 2-4 years? Hell I'd argue they're better than the central honestly

Well I don't know if the goaltending will turn around. Edmonton is tied for dead last (with NJ) with -12.5 goals saved above expected.

They have great underlying numbers but that goaltending....whoof

Kinda banking on Holland having enough sense to actually trade for a for a goalie…

They need to trade for 2 goalies. A starter and a backup.
