There's a lot of people on here trying to trade for Foligno, but regardless of the value here, I'm just curious if there's one example besides Matthew Tkachuk of a player getting traded after signing an extension. Because that one was an obvious sign and trade. Offers for Foligno have been all over the place, but I just don't see any realistic world he's traded. He also has a NMC, so that just adds to that thought...
Tkachuk didn't get traded after signing a in\mid season extention.
Calgary and Florida did a sign and trade, Calgary ''signed him'' because they could give him the 8yrs and than Florida acquired him but, Tkachuk wouldn't have signed the deal without the trade in place. If that's the standard for signing before being traded, Severson did that last year too. I'm not gonna deep dive but, it's fairly common.
Foligno's case is different though he signed in-season, saying he wants to stay and the team wants him to stay, those types of trades are rare but, I'm guessing it has happened a few times. (I.e. signing the contract with one GM and a mid-season firing, new GM has a different view of the team and trades the player)
I would guess that Minny doesn't trade him though, sends a bad message about respect for future signings and contract negotiations
