I would think San Jose would be adamant for a first rounder. Nonetheless, it is a decent trade. Good for Boston, and still provides a goalie and futures for San Jose.

Thirty year old Hertl for six full years doesn't seem wise. Besides he's not really a # 1 centre. Ullmark surely doesn't waive to San Jose.

Gee Linus Ullmark has a 16 team no trade list, Yeah i'm pretty sure that San Jose is one of those 16 teams.

Personally I say no! Don’t get me wrong I would
Love Ullmark but he won’t change our trajectory and losing Hertl our only real offensive threat sets us back another year or two in the rebuild. Rather keep rebuilding with Hertl then sign Ullmark in the 25 off-season lol.

Wouldn’t be surprised if they are on his No list

Hertl is literally the sharks only offensive weapon and has been good this year! Yes we have Eklund but he’s a rookie and leaning on Hertl and without Hertl his numbers drop. and yea Hertl is 36 when this deal ends but he’s in great shape and his game is not predicated on speed and those type of players tend to last a little longer (see Pavelski & Giroux)

It could also be a 3 team trade where Ullmark goes else where and San Jose receives futures/ prospects.

I also don’t believe Hertl sets back the rebuild that much really. You still have vlasics contract+ all the burns and karlsson retention holding you back.

Won’t be a while 4+ years before San Jose starts looking quite solid again. By then they will have smith/ eklund/ bourdeleau/ Bystedt and probably couture still to fill those center positions + probably celebrini and other top prospects they will draft between now and 2026

No I’ve done so many of these hypothetical Arm chairs and it’s not hard to see multiple ways sharks could be turning it around as early as 25/26 take. Sharks have about 35 million to spend next off-season at about 50 million to spending 25/26. Add two more top five picks to that +2 or three more first rounders and this team starts looking a lot different.
