Now that we are finally healthy, the Sabres do have some extra forwards bc our youth has been playing so well
I think a trade like u propose is certainly possible

If the Rangers need to find a good forward, this trade is acceptable.

Idk that I’d call him “good”
But his defense has improved & his 5v5 play has been much better the last few seasons- so while he is offensively focused, he’s also far from the “”PP specialist” he used to be

If used correctly, he could be an asset for a playoff team

Can you explain his drop in production?

Wouldn’t be totally against it. But 3C is the priority over another winger

Bumped down to PP2
And has seen his 5v5 icetime decline
Our coach is seemingly not a big fan

But also, all the young talent we have has been playing so well that we wanna see them on the ice- & that icetime has to come from somewhere

Essentially we’ve been choosing to play & develop them over Olofsson bc (I’m assuming) we don’t see him as a long term “core” member

That’s fair
Do u guys have Cap room to do both ?
Sabres could also hold a bit more to get his cap hit down to $2.4mil

I think the more retention the better. Unless the rangers target Novak who’s only $800k

I don’t see any reason the Sabres wouldn’t be ok with holding the max retention possible
If not a deal with you guys, I’d imagine someone looking for a bit more offense would be interested in a deal for him

Slam dunk deal for Buffalo, good move for the Rags. Not sure it fits into president Pegula's mantra. Is it effective? Yup. Efficient? Sure. Economic?...

Nope.

Just my 2 cents.

Olofsson has a very good one timer - when he hurt his wrist the season before last he showed very good passing ability but when his shot came back the passing went away- sometimes something happens and he gets fired up and shows a pretty good defensive and checking game but that doesn't happen very often - To me a little bit of a frustrating player but maybe no one ever asked him to do it all "Hey, Victor, We'd like you to score goals, make assists, check and play defense all at once every game" "Really, sure all right"

First off,
trading Olofsson & holding half still has us paying LESS than if we kept him- so you’re wrong, it actually IS “economic”

Secondly,
where exactly is it written that Pegula isn’t gonna spend $$$ ?
This seems to be an idea that’s just been ASSUMED, & not necessarily rooted in reality

It's not me that says no to retaining salary, it would be Pegula. To my knowledge, the Sabres have retained salary once dating back to GMTM (if not further,) and that was retention to move Taylor Hall. At the time of the trade, the Sabres were in a bind because of Hall's no movement clause and the Bruins (Hall's only choice) needed retention to fit him in, even though about 75% of the season had already been played.

Pegula has enough financial trouble paying coaches and executives who no longer work for him and save for the buyouts early in his ownership, I highly doubt he wants to pay a player not to play for him (Bishop's salary to become cap-compliant not included.)

As for the spending aspect, it's his words. He wants the organization to be, "effective, efficient and economic."

*shrugs*

Again,
Trading Olofsson & holding half is more “economic” than keeping him & paying full salary

And Pegula has no trouble paying anyone
He has all kinds of $$$

Pegula's been losing tens of millions of dollars a year on the Sabres, plus he's been paying coaches and executives for years, plus he lost a lot of $$$ during the pandemic and, not to forget, he lost a ****-ton on Kim's PSE ventures.

No need to get upset with me. I'd do the trade in a heartbeat. No questions asked. In fact every fan in Sabreland would do it as proposed in a heartbeat. Hell, I think KAGM would do it as well. I just don't think Uncle Terry will retain on him, but if he does, you win bragging rights. If they don't, I win.

Deal?

I’m not even a little upset with you
Just doing simple math
If $$$ is indeed an issue, paying half of Olofsson’s salary is cheaper than paying the full thing

And sure, the Sabres lose $$ on a yearly basis
The franchise also appreciates value as well though,
and Pegula is a billionaire besides
