Hutson as expected Mesar soars Beck Disappoints

Description
From Scott Wheeler

Lane Hutson (D, Montreal Canadiens): Hutson didn’t blow the doors off the tournament offensively but he made a statement with his play defensively and his competitiveness, right to the final buzzer. Huge minutes and he handled them like a pro, which I expect he’ll be this spring when BU’s season is over!

Owen Beck (F, Montreal Canadiens): Tone-setter physically and in work ethic. Thought he really struggled in execution with the puck and am concerned about that more and more in terms of his NHL projection.

Filip Mesar (F, Montreal Canadiens): Big-game, big-moment player for Slovakia throughout. Dangerous on the flank on the power play. Playing to the interior more consistently at five-on-five, while still making plays out wide and off the rush. Working on and off the puck. I thought Mesar was excellent, as you’d expect out of a 19-year-old first-round pick. Still positive, though. Had a strong case to be named one of their top three players of the tournament, even though he wasn’t. Best player on the ice in their quarterfinal loss to Finland. Could have been in the media all-star/tournament MVP conversation had they managed to win that game.

Additional Details:
Kane NMC turns to 16 team NTC in 2025 can help this team in their hard to play against direction. Management seems to love guys like Anderson who’s really another Kane-lite in skill, Evander certainly is a better fit with very good to elite players whom the Habs should be developing after another two years of lottery finishes. This should be the year that the Habs 'try' to compete. 1 year term on a player they could also flip is worthwhile.
EDM
  1. 2025 3rd round pick (VAN)
  2. 2026 5th round pick (MTL)
Additional Details:
After doing the Oilers ACGM for 2025-26. Oilers will need space for Draisaitl money then McDavid the following year. This is going to hurt for the Oilers. It will be tough to get anything for a 34 year old with a 16TM NTC that is playing bottom 6 minutes with 'character' issues despite being nothing but a model citizen in Edmonton. Holloway should be ready to step up, finally

I would just caution that a straight youth movement does not automatically get you to the promised land. Look at Ottawa, they are legit talking about trading Brady Tkachuk...

Staios made the best decision as a president in signing Staois as a GM. I love Ottawa!

I keep saying it , Owen Beck is Lars Eller 2.0
He's can score a hat trick 1 game then go 30 games without a goal
He's good Defensively but most well known for his Faceoffs.
He's an ideal 3rd line guy, question becomes do we need him?

Personally i say yes, he's a Pest and i think can be molded by Byron into a really solid PK leader.
That said we got other options presenting themselves.

Hard to make that call on trading him until after next seasons finishes.

I wonder what a package of Mesar + Beck + Roy could get from another team for a really, really good young player (I don’t mean Zegras, because I have seen a lot of discussion about him on here). Maybe Kyrou? Boldy? Something less??

LMAO tell me you dont understand how a market works without telling me.

He's worth a ton more than a late 1st. Elite wrist shot, massive frame, can move better than most big men and of course, the physicality.

It would be on brand for the Islanders after making Bolduc/Bortuzzo their 2nd pair!

Bolduc-Bortuzzo was their 3rd pair and it was only because Pulock/pelech were on IR
