Even if you get Hanifin? You’ll pay for Hanifin retention hold lohrei, forbirt, Gryz, Hanifin and Lindholm?

If they get Hainfin i expect Grizz will be going Flames for cap purposes in the deal.

Flames won’t be viewing Gryz as +ve value.

Which is why i said for cap purposes.

It also depends when it happens.

Today - they can flip Grizz for a 3rd at the deadline so he is an asset at that point.

At the deadline - no he is not an asset for them unless he extends, don’t see either side having interest in that.

I doubt Gryz goes for a 3rd. At least not without 50% retention and even then maybe not

EDM isn't interested for similar reasons to why NJ isn't interested in moving their McLeod.

More than fair. Just thought it may have potential as a hockey trade with toffoli as a more offensive minded option to fit with Drai

At the deadline. No problem. D are like gold. See Ben Chiarot, who sucks. Lol.

He’s not as good as Bruins fans try to make him out to be, not as bad as everyone else does. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Oilers easily pass they aren’t gonna ruin the depth scoring in fact I don’t think the oilers would trade Mcleoud for Toffoli one for one

1 bad decision does not make a market.

Chiarot was playing 23:30 a night
Gryz is playing 17:30

There are overpaymenrs every year at deadline for short term assets/rentals.

He still sucked, he just sucked longer. Lol.

He was viewed as a guy who could handle big tough minutes. And so that’s what was paid for. I’m not saying that was the right decision, but that was the justification.

Meanwhile in Gryz they see a guy being pushed out of the lineup

What about Foegele by himself? A 5th?

Given how he's played of late and that EDM is back in a playoff spot, I wouldn't be moving him. He brings things that I value a lot as well as established chemistry with McLeod (and growing chemistry with Draisaitl).

As for what he'd be worth if he were on the market irrespective of my preferences, I've seen players like him go for a variety of returns. Using last year's deadline as a reference, all of Motte, Lazar, Sundqvist, and Namestnikov were traded for a 4th and I believe Foegele is better than all of them (opinions may differ). Given that, I'd say a 3rd would be where I'd mark his trade value.

I’m not 100% sure on what the contracts were but I know motte and Lazar

Sundqvist would be a good comp I’d think (good find) for a 4th

Edmonton say a big no, not paying a second round pick, a good young player in mcleod and foegele who is hot right now. I think foegele and a second/ is ok to get toffoli half salary. But mcleod for bastion is where de big no is.

The team acquiring any player obviously seem to have a use for him.

Remember when the Leafs payed a pair of 2nds for a washed up Plekanec just take face offs on 4th line and play PK. He was toast, but served a need or so they thought.

It’s Foegele for Bastian (cap clearing)

And McLeod+2nd for toffoli.

If you’re interested in giving futures it can be a 1st+3rd for toffoli

But the acquiring team in this case is Calgary, which doesn’t have a use for them and isn’t going to want to do the work paying his salary until the deadline, retaining, and flipping him if he can stay healthy, and play well enough to have a buyer. And they certainly aren’t gonna be viewing that as a +ve in a trade

I don't consider the contracts as being particularly relevant when a player is living up to said contract. Lazar had 3 goals & 5 points in 45 games, Motte had 3 goals & 9 points in 36 games, Namestnikov had 6 goals & 15 points in 57, Sundqvist had 7 goals & 21 points in 52 (the closest of the comparables). In contrast, Foegele has 7 goals & 19 points in just 36 games. He's even penalty killing since the coaching change so that isn't even an excuse to dock him in comparison and his high-end chance generation rates further buffer his case in comparison.

Because you say so?

I have a feeling that GMs looking to bolster their lineup with a defensively responsible D man that excels in transitioning the puck and 5v5 play have a different view.

How many of those guys played more than half their minutes alongside either Connor Mcdavid or Leon Draisaitl?

And yet his metrics have been in the dumps this year and last and he's being pushed out of boston's lineup

He produced similarly the prior season while not playing all that much with them. ~150mins with Drai and ~67mins with McDavid of his ~775mins. The fact that he can even play with them can also be seen as a positive, though I understand your point. You're free to hold the position, but Draisaitl isn't a particularly dominant 5-on-5 producer and, as such, you shouldn't dock players value in the same way you might with McDavid. If you want to maintain that position, I'd suggest you would need to apply that filter to the production of your own players, as well- like Toffoli and his time alongside Hughes.
