idk, that hit was in 2018. probably been put to rest now. we have seen rutherford target matheson in the past (traded to pitt from florida). wouldnt surpise me if they were interested again.

Send Kuzmenko somewhere else and remove retention. Montreal doesn't need a pending(+1) UFA and isn't going to use the retention slot.
Might get more value out of Kuzmenko that way, though if you are moving him you wouldn't really need the retention.

Even then, I wouldn’t want to risk this and making Pettersson unhappy. Also I don’t think Matheson is the right type of dman for us to target. A lot of his offensive production comes on the PP, which he wouldn’t play on for us, and he’s not strong defensively

matheson has been pretty underwhelming since getting to montreqal. he has been performing poorly in a top pairing role.

this is a bigger package than Van gave up for hronek who is younger and better and right handed

i wouldnt say underwhelming hes definitely not a top paring guy, but nobody shouldve expected him to be. His defense would get better playing against weaker lines and with a better partner and in my opinion VAN could use a better puck mover outside the top pairing. Maybe the package was to much but i dont see kuzmenko staying with VAN for much longer.
