I believe you are better off trading McCabe to BUF and signing Pesce.

McCabe is better than Pesce, especially considering their cap hit.

It's not a terrible offer but I don't think the Sens will trade Chychrun at all.

Chabot is more likely.

As for the title. Nylander has more offensive ability over Tkachuk. Yes he exploded last year but he is closer to his normal points this year. 85 -100 point player. But Nylander is definitely not even closer to on par with many other Tkachuk intangibles. Timing of contracts affects this too. If Tkachuk was a free agent this coming year he would get 12 million plus most likely. As for whom I would prefer, I would not argue Tkachuk over Nylander as Tkachuk brings many different elements that could help the Leafs as well as he offense.

As for the Ottawa trade, considering what Ottawa gave up for Chychrun that would be a coup. That's essentially looking like 2 first and 2 seconds for Chychrun where Ottawa gave up only a 1st and 2 seconds if I remember correctly. Treliving will hard pass wanting to remove Minten or no deal.

On Ottawa's end , that is the deal you would want at a minimum for Chychrun considering asset management. You would want more that what you gave up.

Hard to see a trade between these two team unless it involves Chabot, and now Toronto is getting another injury prone player at a higher cap hit that seems to have hit his ceiling. Is it worth it. Chabot is good, very good, but not sure much he helps the Leafs when hey have Rielly.

Location of the signing makes a big difference too.

Tkachuk's $44,964,269 > Nylander's $42,780,680.

If Tkachuk had signed in Toronto, he might have been had for less than 11.5M due to timing in terms of cap and the fact that he signed an extension as an RFA, but it probably wouldn't have been much less, maybe 1M at most.

Location can make a difference too, but timing as well. Great point.

Sure but that was for 3 years of Chychrun, not 1. If they move him (which there is no guarantee they will) even they know they won't get back what they gave up.

Tkachuk was an RFA who gave up leverage in negotiations by agreeing to be traded there. He wanted florida. If he tried to demand outrageous sums of money florida wouldn't have traded for him

I see McCabe as someone who makes many mistakes tbh.

I also see McCabe as someone who plays with an AHL defenceman.
