He's probably the best realistic option for a 2C that VAN could afford, plus he's Swedish so we already know that Alvin wants him.

I look at Lindholm like a right handed Bo Horvat. Lindholm is probably better offensively and not as good defensively and is a good face-off man. I'd like to get Lindholm and resign him for a couple more years. As when breaking up the Lotto line should work to take some of the face-off pressure off Petey.

I think lindholm is more of a complimentary player than a play driver. I think he would be a good fit on Petey’s wing but not a great 2nd line centre.

Probably accurate assessment. The problem is he will cost a lot to acquire, a lot to resign, and he’s not the best option out there. He would be my plan B or C

Who's a better option as a 2C? When played with good players he's amazing at Center, and given that he hasn't been great this season the acquisition cost will likely be lower than we expect

Who do you think would be a better option? I personally love Lindholm as a player. Feel like you guys have it backwards when thinking Horvat is a better defensive player - Lindholm was a Selke finalist in 2022.

Edit: I do feel he will be prohibitively expensive to acquire and retain.

He's having a terrible year right now, doubt he'd get the same return Horvat did, likely a 1st, B prospect and roster player (I.E 1st, Podkolzin & Myers or someone else for cap reasons)

in my opinion, that was the worst selke finalist outcome i have ever seen. lindholm is the 3rd best defennsive on his team, not in the league.

im not saying he is a bad 2-way player, but he is far from elite defensively.

on top of that, 2022 is the most outlier year of lindholm's career, and he has regressed back to career norms since then. he has proven this year he cannot carry his own line. tkachuk and gaurdreau elevated him, like they did monohan before him

Interesting. I've always thought he was very good defensively when watching him, albeit that's mainly just when he is playing the Canucks - so pretty small sample. Like you say, he did have terrific linemates during most of that time.

He's never been below 50% corsi or fenwick and this season is his only below 50% on ice xGF. If I remember correctly he was always considered a defensive 3C type when he played with the Canes.

have to remember that calgary, in general, usually has very good underlying numbers from a corsi/fenwick/xGF perspective. most players on that team have had positive numbers over the years.

Backlund has has better corsi/fenwick/xGF numbers than lindholm every single season. kadri is better than lindholm in all three categories last year and this year.

Lindholm is usually middle of the pack for forwards on the flames in underlying numbers.

he's a good two-way player but is on-ice numbers are bouyed by linemates and team style. this year, now that they aren't playing that god-awful Daryl Sutter style which pumps up shot attempts and expected goals but doesnt actually create offense, his numbers have plummetted.
