I don’t know how this trade would work, but I think this trade could work.

Montreal would accept. IMO Monahan does not get a 1st pick. Montreal wants one, but it will be a mid-to-late 2nd.

I'd just waive Friedman and try no retention for some package other than a first round pick. 2+ would be solid. If Monahan stayed healthy he could be a big add for Van.

I wouldn't give a first for Monahan. Half his points this season come from him playing PP1 - which he wouldn't be on on the Canucks.

Well, He'll make PP2 dangerous then.

The truth is that at 5v5 he has mostly defensive assignments.

2026 first round pick is a bit far - We would go for the 2024 - or Podz if he's available.

KH is trying to fast-track the rebuild with prospects.

bumped it up to a 2026 1st to get the retention. if no retention, a 2025 2nd would be fair imo

is it worth it run a 22 man roster though?

100% he would be on PP1 in the bumper spot if canucks acquired him. bump kuzmenko down to pp2. monahan lead the flames in PP goals for multiple years scoring from the bumper spot, which has been vacant in vancouver since they traded horvat

2024 1st is an overpayment, as is podz. wouldnt do anything more valuable than a protected 1st 3 drafts away tbh. monohan was a cap dump 2 years ago and he's more of a bargain bin target this TDL. only going after him in this AGM.

also, i wouldnt expect stellar defensive play from him 5v5. even though i have him slotted in the "2C" spot, that line would probably get 3rd line minutes 5v5.

The_Rocket: I think the only way Monahan gets a first for Montreal is if there is a condition on Monahan playing all games for the other team(reg season and playoffs).

Friedman doesn't touch the ice anymore. Juulsen has up'd his game so it's basically a 22 man roster.

Ok but he'd be the 8th Dman. So that would be two dmen down. If it were to make a difference on retention vs no retention to not give up a first, it's worth it to me
