Sabres unlikely to retain for another team’s trade

Is the reason cash-related? They've 3 open retention slots and nearly 18M in available cap space, it would make sense for them to weaponize that, unless they're having money problems. They'd only be paying about $275k-350k.

It could honestly be to any team with the cap space though.

In general, your logic makes sense
But for us, a 4th doesn’t hold much value considering how stocked- overstocked actually- our prospect pool is
We also need to make a few trades to fill in some holes,
& it would make more sense to use our retention slots in deals like that as opposed for mid round picks

It’s commonly believed that the Sabres owner wouldn’t go for a trade like u suggest
      He’s worth over $10billion
We we do lose $$ on a yearly basis when we don’t make the playoffs

It just doesn’t make sense for our situation when u know the particulars

No it isn't, that deal can be beat.

You want Guentzel, you've got to offer better.

Yes, it is. 1st round pick, a good prospect, NHL-ready roster player. It's all there. Whether or not someone offers more remains to be seen.

The first is going to be a late first given the probability that Vancouver will go decently far which means the rest of the offer needs to be boosted a bit.

Nils Aman is a bottom 6 forward at best.

The Canucks have better prospects than Podkozlin (multiple)

Won't matter anyways because they won't trade Guentzel.

Just because the Canucks have better prospects than Podkolzin doesn't mean that they have to give up those better prospects. Podkolzin immediately becomes one of, if not the best prospect in the Penguins system.

Aman is currently a bottom-six forward and he has top-6 upside. He has 5 points in 19 games with minimal minutes and is still only 23. His P/60 5v5 is higher than Knies, Lindholm, Kane, Letang, Smith, McCann, etc. minimum 150 mins. played. Higher xGF% 5v5 than Gaudreau, Caufield, Teravainen, Suzuki, Jack Hughes, etc. (min. 150 min played) Signed through 2025-26 at league minimum. That's with him seeing 10:53 ATOI. Tough to give up, but worth it for a player like Guentzel.
